Hi, I was just wondering what the best PSU would be for my new system.

I dont want to spend more than 150 on the PS. This is the system that it will be running:

DFI Lanparty Ultra D NEO4
AMD 64 3200+
1GB PC3200 RAM 512x2
40GB WD 2MB cache IDE
200GB WD 8MB cache IDE
74GB WD 8MB cache SATA
MSI Geforce 6600 GT 128MB
Zalman 7700 HS
7 Sunon 80mm fans
1 Lite-On 24X Cd burner
1 Creative Labs DVD player (i think)

I have been looking at these PSUs:
Zippy/Emac :
1. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-103-708&depa=0
2. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-103-706&depa=0
OCZ:
3. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-150&depa=0
4. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-152&depa=0
Enermax:
5. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-103-437&depa=0
6. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-103-458&depa=0
Fortron
7. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-934&depa=0

Also anything by Topower or Tagan. I'm looking for solid brands that have proven themselves. Reason I am hesistant about the OCZ. They are good from what I've read, but they had a lot of issues early on and haven't proven themselves yet (years of quality).

I know this thread has been put out there again and again - but I'm so lost as to which is really a good PS and why. I am looking mainly for 24 pin. Very good amperage, sturdy and reliable, very reliable, and with a lot of room to grow. I plan on using this PS for the next 2-3 years. More if possible. Please help!

PS I may/will be doing some minor OCing
Thanks,
Doyle

Take your pick. Any of those PSU's will work good, and should serve you well for at least your three year requirement. :)

Which one were you leaning twards the most?

Yeah, I did a lot of research - but the problem is, I did so much research that I found all of the "good" PSUs out there and now I can't decide which one is truly the best for what I need.

Definately need a 24pin. Definately want VERY good amperage. Right now I'm using a Thermaltake 420W. Its running everything, but it doesn't seem stable - I've had some issues and its either the PS or the RAM. Not sure which. Plus, I'm going to put this TT in a different, not as important system as this one, my main.

Anyways, if you ABSOLUTELTY had to pick a PS for under 150 - which one would you go with and why?

Thanks guys, you rock

There's an Enermax Noisetaker 485W ATX 2.0 PSU on newegg and monarch for 108. Dual rails (18A on each), cheaper than most of what you have listed, and still kinda overkill for your system. I'd recommend that puppy.

This is what happens when you list all quality components. Everyone will have their own personal preference. ;)

Maybe take all the PSU's you picked, and put them in a poll.

well main reason is that if I am not mistaken, most Antec PSs are dual rail? And I've heard rumors that the quality has dropped recently due to new manufacturers. I really would prefer a VERY strong single rail that can handle future upgrades - even to the point of SLI.

If you absolutely had to pick, which would you pick?

Tagan 480w review, has 24 pin ATX connection, also comes with 3 year warranty and has a very quiet fan, available from Newegg as well.

Better have good airflow in that case so air flows over the hard drives. 3 Hard drives and 2 optical drives is a bit overkill. They all are generating heat. I think I would ditch the 40 Gig Hard Drive. Too much heat buildup can kill an expensive hard drive.

I've had a few ppl recommend Tagan but I personally never heard of them. Are they really reliable?

From what I've read, yes. Very reliable. They are made by Topower I believe. OCZ uses them, and OCZ is like the current craze for PSs next to PC&C.

^Sniper^

They are well known in Europe,as to reliability, they don`t put 3 year warranty on their PSUs for nothing, bottom line is reliability is good as Enermax,Antec etc.....

Another review@Hexus from last year.

I'd go for the zippy/emacs.

Okay. Can anyone recommend a Zippy/Emac that has 24pin connector, good amperage, etc.? Fits the ATX 2.0 standard, or something close to say the OCZ Powerstream.
