I think the card thing is screwy at the moment. Leaving games open never gets me cards. Only times i've gotten cards are..
1. Installing game and playing for a few minutes.
2. Beating a game.

I've never got cards randomly playing a game. I've got ONE card for Borderlands 2..after 30 hours of play.

Honestly the fastest way to make money is to play TF2 and sell items that drop.

Got my first booster pack last night. It was for Binding of Isaac, and they were going for $1.15, while individual cards were around $.30-.35. So I'd make about a dime over current card costs to sell it, or I could have a chance at foil cards, making what was in the booster worth much more.

Opened it and just got three regular cards though.

I took a gamble and bought 3 Mystery Cards ($2.90 total) to go with the 2 that I got from drops.

I'm assuming that you'll need 5 to craft something once they reveal what they are.

I got one of those "Mystery Cards" over the weekend for crafting a badge. Beats a useless coupon.

But now the speculation begins......what's the prize? My guess is that it's some type of % of any game coupon that's stackable and can be used during sales.

Got a TF2 Booster Pack. My question: is there a chance it will contain a TF2 card I don't currently have? I know random individual cards are limited to 4 of the characters. So, does the Booster Pack just contain 3 of the cards I already have or could it contain some I don't? It's only going for about $.90, so I'm not concerned about selling it.

I beleive it's completely random....you could get a card you don't have, you do have, a foil card, three of the same card, etc.

However, I've never received a booster, so I'm not completely sure.

Play games -> get cards randomly -> sell cards -> ??? -> profit

Instead of selling cards you can also collect them. Once you get an entire set, you can craft them into badges which gives you some things like backgrounds, emoticons, mystery cards, coupons, etc.

It also gives you XP toward you Steam level. Right now Steam level doesn't mean much (higher levels unlock some Steam things like player profile features), but I'm thinking Steam will evenutally have a plan for these levels.

IMHO, they should tie your Steam level to the amount of discount you get with coupons/sales/etc. ie if your Steam level 10 (like me) you get an extra 10% off.......that would make sense to me.

Not close to making a badge, since it needs buying or trading fr cards, or getting enough 'booster packs' and I have none.

Depends on how many games you play that drop cards really. I have 8 or 9 games that I got cards from but really only wanted to get the stuff for two of them so I sold all the rest of my cards on the market and used the money from those to get the few cards I needed to complete a set and craft a badge. I was lucky and got two booster packs to drop and I sold those as well. I created two sets for BL2 and two for portal 2 without using any real money or trading at all.

Not sure if a new topic dedicated to trading would be worth it, so I'll just post here.

I've got:
Blocks That Matter
- Alexey
- Markus

Binding of Isaac
- II The High Priestess (x2)
- III The Empress (x2)

I will accept any Borderlands 2 cards. SteamID is sweener2001, http://steamcommunity.com/id/sweenish/

Tonight I'm online between 8 and 10 PM CST. Usually a little earlier.

Yes, It's getting ridiculous. People need to look at it from a different perspective... Consider several years back, before 'friendly DRM' had weaseled it's way into the mainstream. What would we have thought of a DRM that required 100+ MB download just to install? A DRM that takes up 300MB on the hard drive? A DRM that's service uses 85MB of ram? A DRM that controls the installation of the game and all patches?

I don't like the cards idea, in fact I think it's kinda retarded. But I completely disagree with this comment. Sure maybe years and years ago those things might have bothered us, but today:

100Mb represents an 8 second download time for me. 300Mb represents 0.003% of my hard drive space, and 85Mb of RAM represents 0.5% of my total RAM...

Steam might be "DRM" but it's also a digital distribution service, they're protecting their service which is fair enough, if you have a problem with steam buy a disc.

While you are right, there's a flaw in your last sentence. Just because you buy a disc, especially if it's a Steam game (which is many many games these days), you can't actually install, it just downloads it anyway. You really aren't gaining anything by buying the disc which is unfortunate.

You can install from the disc, but for whatever reason it bugs out and wants to download it. You need to follow that to go by the disc.

Stupid and should be fixed I totally agree before you say it. But disc installation is there.
