So how this works is, say the game drops 5 of 9 cards, I need to get the other 4 from other players?

Yeah you can trade with other people. If you click on the badge you are collecting cards for it will show people on your friendslist that have the cards you need to finish that badge. It is currently easier/quicker to just sell the cards you don't want/need on the market and buy the ones you need instead.

Yup. Or buy them on the market. I haven't spent much time on the market, until today. But I've definitely notice the potential to make a profit if you're willing to be patient. Prices bounce around a bit.

I decided to actually play borderlands 2, had it forever never touched it, got 3 cards when i first launched game. Played now for over 30 hours and nothing else. It really is random. lol

I can't see much room for selling cards if you want to make badges though?

I sell cards that I either don't want to make the badge for, normally for a game I don't care enough about or the cost is too high to bother making the badge the other reason I sell cards is when I get duplicates or the same when I first get my drops.

I have a lot of games that I was able to get cards, I crafted badges for like 6 of them, which was probably 1/5 of the games I actually was able too.

How do you get duplicates?

That's the time that seems it'd make sense, but I just get the basic one-time drops.

Either during the initial card drop or booster pack drops.

For example, I got two duplicates during my initial 5 card drop for Psychonauts. Bad luck.

But I got no duplicates duirng my initial 5 card drop for Faerie Solatiare. Good Luck.

I sold the 5 FS cards and 2 duplicate Psychonaut cards and then bought the 6 Psychonaut cards I needed. Crafted the Psychonaut badge, got the XP (got me to level 10), got a emoticon I'll never use (sold it for $0.04), got a background I don't like (up for sale), and a coupon I'll never use (50% off Evoland...game does not look like my type of thing).

I played FTL for about 5 hours yesterday and not 1 drop....lol

That sounds unusual. Are you sure you haven't already got your basic card drops? The easiest way to see what's dropped and what's left to drop is username>Badges.

If you've already got the basic drop, then all you can get are booster packs which are random.

Yeah I played portal 2 for a while last night and didn't get any cards :/
Maybe I'm confused how it works, but on the badges page it says I still have 4 drops remaining?

leave the game running and new cards will pop up in your inventory. the game you're playing should have at least 1 of X drops remaining. you'll see a notification in steam when you have new items in your inventory.

Cool. thanks for the tip. I'll try it tonight when I get home.

Yup. I worked from home yesterday. I bought Faerie Solitare, downloaded it, booted it up, alt tab'd out, did my work, and two hours later I had all 5 card drops. Six hours later I had sold all 5 cards, lol.

Yea, I know how it works 🙂 , I just got 0 drops during that entire time, which was unusual, because on the rest of the games, I wasn't even playing and I was getting drops within a few minutes. Really doesn't matter to me though

I have been successfully grinding cards since Kaotik's golden advice that one could alt-tab game to get cards. I played most a lil while and really got hooked on Faster than Light  My 4 drops usually have happened pretty quickly. Today I been playing Magika and over hour in not a single drop. Did steam change the drop rate?

It kind of frustrates me that I can't get a TF2 badge with out buying stuff from the store. They know I bought it back when it was part of the Orange Box. Why couldn't they have made that $9 requirement only apply to Free to Play users?

Oh yeah, money...

They must have changed the card drops or the server is backlogged. I finally got around to playing Half Life 2 today and played for 2+ hours without a single drop.

If you owned the game or bought anything in the Man Co store before the cards you automatically are able to get the max number of cards allow to drop for TF2.

Anybody know what a (Foil) card is? I got one dropped from Magicka and it looks like it's priced way more than the regular cards.

They're a rare version of the same cards, with no difference other than that they're rare (and therefore probably more valuable).
