Made about $9 so far, 3 badges (to get me over lvl 10 for the booster pack bonus), and got the excellent Defender's Quest for free in effect.

If you like tower defense and games like Final Fantasy Tactics, try the demo. It's on sale for $5 or so, but not sure how long. First day I put in 7 hours... fun game.

The way you earn cards for this is flawed.

If they really wanted to make cards rare, they would tie them to achievements, with the rarest cards being for actually completing a game. There would be so few of them lmao.

I completed a game yesterday, and it is rare. 4 elements.

Unfortunately I clicked the mouse during the 'epilogue' and it closed it, so I missed it.

It's probably the best of the 'match 3' type games I've seen.

They say why they didn't use achievments in their FAQ.

They said the reason they didn't tie the cards to achievements is because people would use achievements unlockers and just unlock the cards instantly then.

I'm confused though, if you dont even have to actually play the game to get the cards....

On top of that...i don't get the drops:

Card drops for purchasing game: 3
Card drops remaining: 3
Cards dropped : 2, none remaining?.....wut?

The only "complaint" I have with the Steam trading card system is that is seems geared towards rewarding the already wealthy. Cards have value. The more cards you get, the richer you are. Everyone gets the same number of cards for each game owned. So how do you get MORE cards? Booster packs (and as I understand it, the only way to get a valuable foil card for those of us poor saps under level 10 is through booster packs). How do you get more booster packs? Have a higher level, increasing your odds of getting them.

How do you get a higher level? Craft cards into badges unlocking XP.

So, if my understanding of the system is correct, the higher you are in level, the more odds you have of getting more booster pack cards.....which you can either sell, or craft into badges gaining you XP and increased levels and increasing your odds of gettting more booster packs and...the cycle continues.

Now that I think about it, it's alot like our current tax code here in the US, lol.

As I understand it, you have to play the game to get the initial drop of cards (which you are eligible for by owning the game).

You do NOT have to the play the game to get the booster packs....you simply need to log into Steam at least once a week to maintain your eligibility to receive those packs.

But I could be wrong......

I've gotten foil cards from the original 'bought game' drops, even before I was level 10.

whoa, wait. how do you craft cards into other stuff?

You get the entire set of cards. The basic card drop is about 1/2 of the cards needed to craft a badge.

For example, you need all 9 Psychonaut cards to craft the Psychonaut badge (and get the 100 XP..plus having a badge to display in your profile....plus gettting cool things for crafting like backgrounds, coupons, etc.).

The basic card drop gives you 5 cards. If you're unlucky, you'll get duplicates. So you end up having to either go to the market (or trade with friends) to get the cards you need and/or wait for booster packs (an additional 3 cards) to drop.

Do you think it's worth it to craft badges instead of selling the cards?

Really depends. When I crafted badges, I would first look and see how much the backgrounds and emoticons were selling for and judge that off of how much I would need to spend to buy the cards I needed. For most of the badges I crafted I broke even or made a little bit of cash. I crafted a couple simply because I like the game/badge. Also from what I remember the higher rank you are the better chance you have of receiving a booster pack.

Pretty much what I did, but I sold a lot of cards I had that seemed to be higher than what they should sell for. Grid 2 cards for example, I sold for near $.80 each, and they are already down to like $.50.

Used the proceeds to buy up cards for other sets, with my main goal being able to reach lvl 10, for the 20% bonus to booster pack drops.

Question - Can you make badges for games you don't own or have installed?

TF2 cards are dirt cheap ($.20ish) but I don't have the game installed (all Source engine games make me extremely sick).

Can't make badges for games you don't own. You can make badges for games you don't have installed though.

Yeah, I think you definitely have to factor in future potential source of revenue into your analysis. The more you craft, the more XP you get, the higher your level. The higher your level, the greater you chance of getting booster packs....as I've previously bitched about.

LOL. Out of my '776' games, that's the one I bought years ago I decided to finally play to see what this card stuff is about. And it is pretty fun.

I bought it this morning. Never heard of it before this thread. I bought it not for the cards, although that's a bonus. I play solitaire all the time when I only have a few minutes and don't want to dive into a "real" game. This game looks fun and would fill that "causual" game need. I guess we'll see.

Ya, one of the things I decide which game to use was I figured, play a rare game not many have cards for, figured almost no one heard of this, so was funny to see that post.
