Whenever I buy a new SSD I always check the SMART data in a Ubuntu live desktop. For a brand new SSD the SMART [Power on Count] section has always been [1].

Yesterday I bought a Samsung SSD for the first time (850 evo 250gb) and the [Power on Count] was [2]. Did I buy a used SSD? The package did not looked open but I think that the 850 evo box and sticker would be very easy to re-seal without making it look opened.

I know that SSD's get tested at the factory, but shouldn't the SMART data also be reset at the factory? Every Crucial SSD gets tested but the SMART [Power on Count] for every Crucial SSD is always [1].

Also, SMART data is not a standard for all makers.

Does your PC do a double-boot / double-POST? Some boards do, especially if cold booted and overclocked. That could explain it too. But otherwise, I agree with the other guys, probably just factory test, I wouldn't worry about it. (Unless HOST writes is non-zero.)
