According to Think Secret which is usaully a very reliable source... apple should be announcing the G4 Ipods sometime in august...

"Sources report the new models will be available in a variety of new colors, expected to include purple, orange, and yellow, as well as larger hard drive sizes as compared to Apple's current offerings.

Pricing is expected to be similar to the current iPod MSRP."

The Think Secret article is here... http://www.thinksecret.com/news/augustipods.html

Blast...after I buy my 20GB refurb. Oh well. I've found if you try and stay up with technology you're never satisfied. ;)

Hopefully they will drop prices or offer models in the same priceranges as the DJ...not that they'd really have to, but the #1 Apple Achilles Heel has been that they rest on their laurels for too long, and competition bites them in the ass.

Hopefully a price drop will accompany this - I just filled up my 15 GB and need some more room.

We should see 3G pods dropping in price.

I could have filled two 40 GB ipods & started on a third when I was building my collection.

right, but the way I see it, with a real fast firewire connection, you only need enough music until you go back to your computer. Even if you go on a two week vacation, 40 gb is way too much.

I agree with this completely.

Agreed. I'd rather see them work on making the process more efficient so they can manufacture and sell them more cheaply. I know I'd buy a 20GB one if I could get it for less than $200.

I still feel zero inclination to replace my first-gen 10GB model. You guys must have some huge record collections! I own something like 250 CDs, but listen to many of them so seldom that it seems silly to put them on my iPod. I rip everything at 192 kbps, and currently have 1400 songs, with another 3.3 GB of free space. I like to leave a lot of extra space so I can cycle Howard Stern shows through - they are essential entertainment for my frequent travel.

It will stop working in a year or two. The problem with the mini is that the rechargable battery doesn't last for as many charges as others for some reason, and it is basically impossible to replace. Good luck with that.

I find it so hard to believe that a forum of intelligent, computer literate people fall so easily for the trendiness that is the ipod despite its overpriced and battery defective nature.

Unless it has some new added functionality (like the ability to play video or something), I doubt I'll be replacing my 3rd gen.

They should really look on improving the battery life of the ipods. 6 hours is a joke.

i was considering purchasing one (esp. since the refurb prices look so tempting), but i want to see what they're gonna throw into the g4 versions. if it has fm radio with the ability to record and better battery life, ill stall out for the g4.
