yes, http://www.lunatics.kwsn.net is up to their old tricks again. The new optimized app is v 5.03 (please don't ask why it went from 8 to 5 to 5.3). I skipped over 5.0 but I've noticed a marked jump from 8 to 5.3. I am looking at about a 50% bump, though I'm doing mostly astropulse units right now. I'll update as additional info becomes available.

Who else is using 5.03? What kind of results have you seen going from 5.0 to 5.3, 8.0 to 5.3, or even, gasp, nothing to 5.3?

modified cuda link courtesy of dajeepster. He's #14 in the world in RAC so he probably knows what he's talking about ;)

Stickied as requested...

here's a modified cuda link for people that are running cuda enabled cards... my i7 with an EVGA GTX260 was doing 9k ppd and climbing before seti went down a couple of weeks ago. as soon as i finish the water cooling upgrade on my system to incorporate water cooling on the graphics card, it will be brought back up.

how much of an improvement does that give over the standard v5.03?

i don't know... Cause i get the V5.03 astro also.. and 6.08 regular..... but with the modified apps, i don't have to wait for cuda specific wu... with the modified apps, cuda crunches on any wu (albeit only one at a time)

aha! that explains why my gtx 260 was clocking down while it was supposed to be crunching!! I'll d/l that tonight.

I don't know about that. I've only gotten AP signals since it came out. There is currently a tremendous backlog of AP units, however, because the older versions of boinc only worked with "normal" wu's.

I'm tracking up a LOT now, I'm almost to 21k RAC already and I still have 130k in pending credits. Maybe I should go borg a few more e7200/e7300's at work...

edit: ok, took over the receptionist's e7300 rig and installed v 5.03 on it. I have high hopes for that one! Also, I'm tracking perhaps a little bit more than I thought. The last 5 days I've gone 32,068: 28,924: 27,285: 25,870: and 29,101. My pending credit continues to mushroom, it's up to 142k right now, so I might even end up pushing 35k!

Hi guys,

I have been crunching GPUGRID on a GTX 295 (2 cores) and was getting about 18k ppd. Are you suggesting that I could be getting more with the SETI apps? I don't know how much faster a single 295 core is but I am sure it is a little bit faster than a 260?

Seems like GPUGRID has been off the last few days, but I am waiting for my upgrade as my main machine started a little flame the other day and now has a black spot and is dead!!!

AP doesn't search for aliens necessarily, it looks more for anomolous interstellar events: ie, pulsars, etc. It COULD find ET, but it doesn't have to find it to be successful.

@ perry: 18k ppd seems about right for a gtx 295 running v 5.03, but it will take it a while to catch up. My x3350 has a gtx 260 in it and I have a LOT of pending AP units right now with that rig. my q9450 is actually showing more credit right now, but it takes it a lot longer to process wu's. plus, I actually use my gtx 260 a few hours per day "gaming". I know, I know, that's crazy, but I didn't even know that you could run CUDA on seti when I bought it!

Sound good. Tomorrow I get my replacement board. It includes another 295 :D ;D; !!!!!

If there are continued problems with AQUA and GPUGRID, I will be switching to Seti. Have not crunched it for long time - trying to get all my accounts to 100k min, but Seti seems to have oodles of WU's. I need to make the investment (?) worthwhile!!!

Yes, just stripped out the dead MB in preperation for tomorrows little bit of fun (feel like a kid at X-Mas). The board burnt bad around the 4 pin 12V connector. Looks like one of the small components next to it burnt and it affected both sides of the board. A cap fell off (de soldered due to heat I suppose) and 2 of the 4 pins where burnt. I suspect that there was just too much current going to the 12V connector. Maybe the reason for new 8 pin 12V connectors in that part of the board.

Anyway, gave me a solid 4 years for 24/7 and OCing, so cannot complain. Damn good reason for an upgrade don't you think?

I gave up trying to find good reasons to upgrade long ago. Now I just upgrade because it's fun to overclock and tinker, plus the wife doesn't get as mad when I remind her that $1000 spent on computer parts is preferable to $1000 spent at a strip club.

btw, don't try that strip club argument. I told it to my wife as a joke, she hasn't talked to me in 2 days!

it just got worse. We went shopping for patio furniture today...the strip club would have been cheaper methinks...

ok, I think that we can officially say that this v 5.03 astropulse optimized app is a big success. I'm at nearly 30k rac now, a sold 50% jump already, plus I have so much pending credit that I'm looking at 35-40k before my RAC stops going up. I don't know how it works on older computers, but anything that is sse3 or better should definitely use it!

I think that they have a pretty big backlog on AP wu's, all of my computers that are running v 5.03 are ONLY working AP wu's atm. They're very large, I'm lucky to get one done in 12 hrs on a 3 ghz c2d core. On older systems they can take several days for one wu running 24/7. I don't know how seti prioritizes AP wu's vs standard ones, but I think that they are more apt to send them to you if you turn the first few over quickly.

this is amazing, my numbers keep climbing. I'm up to nearly 33k rac and have almost 300k now in pending credit. It's looking like I'll end up well over 40k one I stop increasing my pending credit. As a reference, I was running 15k rac before but have added a q9450 @2.88 and 2 e7300's @stock as well, but this is still an extremely large increase in production from all of my systems.

are you running cuda too?
