New SETI gauntlet Sept 25-Oct16

I'm worried that we're going to have to split into two teams, we're now killing everybody. Seti@Netherlands actually has 3 teams plus a single user who was put into his own team.

I've finally committed to putting seti on my newer work computers. We have another 3 or 4 e7200/7300/7400 rigs that are just waiting for seti... plus a couple that have only been crunching sporadically.

Up till this moment we are going for two teams plus Aad Against The World.
The teams will be: [snl]Windmills and [snl]Wooden Shoes.
The team SETI@Netherlands will disappear.

Likewise the German Team will split up in three teams, and the original team SETI.Germany will disappear.

To make things more even, you can start thinking about splitting up your team too.
You can think about a big and a small team, or two teams of about the same power, it will be your choice.
Exception, there is an absolute maximum of 30 members for a team or subteam.
If there are more members, you will be forced to split up.

But there is no hurry. Final decisions about the the volume and power of a team will be made after 18 September.

we can look at it on sept 18 and see how our numbers shake out. we'll definitely need at least two to make things even since all the other big teams are splitting up, maybe we'll get big enough to try to win with more than one team!

We could probably split the team into two. One sub-team can be TAS members and the other could be the other team members. I don't plan to start seti until the 18th, but I can start sooner to make sub-team creation easier.

it will help if every starts a week or two before the 18th so that we have a realistic idea of what each user's output will be.

is TAS big enough to form its own sub team? What is your typical RAC as a group?

RAC varies a lot from project to project.

BTW, dajeepster is a TAS member so are we talking a TAS team w/ or w/o dajeepster.

Only 8 TAS members voted yes for the gauntlet so our output will depend if they go "all in".

Getting all the TAS crunchers to go in that early will be difficult. I think petrusbroder said it best: "managing TAS is like try to herd cats".

I've had trouble getting work on SETI over the weekend. A lot of "no jobs available" messages. Is this typical or just a bump in the road?

Well, I could go crunch some other project. I'd rather do something else if I'm going to be in a second team that is half full and can't compete.

I'm also having trouble getting work on SETI...

Happens just about every other weekend.. probably cause there's no one there on the weekend sometimes (come on... it's summer time) and the server had a hiccup.... and would you really want the student run IT department on the weekends messing with "our" servers... i'll just keep my que at max thank you....

oh... and tuesdays are hell to. That's when they normally do thier updates and maintenance.

I noticed the hiccups too but I heard that happens from time to time. I will be a part of TAS if need be so, I am in no matter what! 🙂

I'll switch over to SETI in about a week. I still have about a weeks worth of workunits between simap and qmc. In June I was doing about 25,000 points per week, this is with a Q9400 @ 3.4 and an A64 @ 2.2.

This could be a great help when you are splitting up your team:

You can see what every member has done in the near past.
If you click on the names in your team on your gauntlet stats page, look at the graph and extend the "period" You can see for example that QuitDad had a RAC of about 2.150 at the end off march. And Assimilator had a RAC of 3.300 at the end of june.
This way you can see the potential of each member.

I just started crunching Seti so no RAC history.

Based on what I've seen, I should be able to do 10-15K per day.

Now if I could get some work.....

It just seems they all come out of the woodwork. Mention a challenge..and the old timers come alive.
I don't have to name names here.....they know who they are.
