the fuck? :hmm:

are you one of those My little Pony dinglecunts, too?

GTFO AT, if that is the case.

Just report him and add him to your ignore list. That's what I'll be doing and maybe he'll get time off. Some time in the corner usually will calm even the crankiest of children.

I'm not really feeling it. It looks to me like Fallout 3 / New Vegas with better graphics, a different story, and more focus on shooting and less on RPG elements. It's also very similar to STALKER, Metro 2033, and Borderlands in my mind.

Time will definitely tell though. I just hope this isn't the next Alan Wake with all of the hype.

Yeah while it looks pretty for sure it seems like we've played these games before. Maybe Taco Bell should start making games.

eh, I don't like to use ignore. I prefer watching the kids rage themselves over the internet. It gives me some perspective.

I wonder if the Id Tech 5 engine is not using DX10, yes I said it DX10. John Carmack said a while back that Doom 4 and Rage would not be using DX10...and I personally am not astonished or anything by the graphics.

I just don't get into that approach to art direction, which is just purely personal preference.

I didn't like it in Fallout and I don't like it here - - it's the "fill every square inch of the world with desaturated ugly junk" approach, and it just ends up looking overly busy and cartoonish to me.

I much prefer a game like STALKER's less "goofy" looking approach to art direction to create that type of atmosphere.

But hey....cool if you dig it. Looks like it should be a fun game, and appears they've put a good bit of effort into it.

It is OpenGL based.

Looks boring. That's my opinion. Another brown shooter... whoopdedoo. The fact that you're impressed by this just proves what a rut this industry is in, and that gamers are just fine with it for whatever reason.
thank you. nothing to see here. game looks straight out of 2005

Is it just me, or is there too much specular lighting? Everything just looks ultra shiny. Reminds me of Doom3. Those textures don't look like much to write home about either.

Why is it that all of the "serious" FPS' are set in these dystopian futures where everything is dismal and blown out and only the fun, silly games (Serious Sam, Ratchet & Clank) are set in bright, shiny, interesting dystopian futures? Not everything needs to be post-apocalyptic, or maybe I'm alone in this?

cause looks alone will make the game great right? Has no one here ever got a game, updated hardware all from some spectacular looking game only to realize the game sucks?
I'll wait for a demo, rent it on ps3 first or something...i'm not stupid enough to fall for it again, unlike some here apparently.

I'm also keen to see how PC gamers will respond to playing an FPS AND driving from a kb/mouse...cause its just worked so well before right?

Crysis 2 is awesome, but the lack of DX11 at launch really put a hamper on the brilliance of the game in peoples' collective minds.

sooo....lack of dx11 in Rage does what now? i mean wtf.o_O

Did I say that? You completely missed my point, I'm talking about setting and how it changes the entire atmosphere of the game, it's not just shiny things to look at. You are telling me you do not get tired of all of these games that look pretty much exactly the same? I'm talking about variety and not the same bombed out landscapes that seem to be the norm these days.

I know you like Bioshock.. but I hated that for the same reason. That and playing that game after Borderlands, Doom 3 and Dead Space made me hate that genre all together.

I liked doom3 quake 4 quake 3 rtcw doom 2 and a bunch of other shit id has done. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Elder scrolls 5 and diablo 3 also get this benefit.

Mabye just once the object of the game could be preventing the apocalypse from happening in the first place, and/or having the course of events in the game indicate that a "winning" turn sets everything on a more optimistic path, where things can hopefully return to how they once were.

As opposed to just having to accept that in the future everything is going to totally suck, and no amount of final bosses killed will make any difference.

Pretty much what I had mentioned above as well. It's getting old and not many seem to want to break away from the norm anymore. Funny thing is that I can't get enough of dystopian future stuff in book form, but with games (especially shooters) it's enough.

I think this looks fantastic. Keeps getting better and better IMO. It's like "finally, I don't have to play dungeons and dragons to get a nice apocolyptic shooter" I love ID games. Quite frankly, they do a few things well, and they stick to it. This is what Fallout 3 should have been.

That video single-handedly changed my impression of this game.

Now my expectations are too high.

So it's going to suck.

A lone guy sets foot in a post-apocalyptic world, starts fighting his way forward, eventually joins up with other survivors, gets in a car and drives around for a while, and eventually meets up with a resistance movement fighting a more powerful authoritarian force.

There's an red and white barrel being detonated with gunfire at 0:38. And an automated gun turret at 3:12.

Seems like I've played this one already... :)

This is exactly what I thought. I couldn't see one original thing in the whole video.

Shooters have always been the big sellers and after twenty years the scifi/fantasy/horror/military theme is still king. You might as well predict that special effects movies will stop concentrating on comic books and fantasy and that rock-n-roll will die.

I'm starting to hate all pc gamers but myself. I swear 9/10 of you are whiny little girls who didn't get the white pony for her birthday...

It can't be said enough that THIS is the reason we are seing more and more games go console only and at the most simply get ported over to us.

Take the latest Duke Nukem reviews. Is it a grand game? No, it's not by any means but it's also not some flaming pile of turd that deserved scores of 2/10 either. The fact is most pc gamers now are holier then though everything shalt be perfect or we will run back to our moms basement and cry ourselves to sleep. That way, we will get up fully rested to blast you and your immature devs to hell and back on the forums lol.

I didn't notice overly shiny textures, but I certainly noticed flat and blurry textures everywhere throughout the environments. The games graphics do next to nothing for me, I really don't understand the hype.

It deserved a 2 in my opinion, you have every right to disagree, but I thought it was horrible. It's not my fault every game now a days gets a 9 either, the review curve has just been getting super skewed lately, where anything that gets less than 8 is considered bad. If more games were getting the 5's and 6's they deserved, the low scores Duke got would fit a bit better.

I'm still going to get it, though -- looks like it's going to be great. I just think that some of the strategy cliches that show up over and over again in this genre are a hoot.
