New Puppy From The Humane Society: Now With More Pics!

eits

Lifer
we already have a great dane... she's 2 years old. we thought she needed a playmate, so we decided to go to the humane society and check out what they had. we saw the CUTEST damn puppy that was labeled "mastiff mix". we wanted him really badly, but apparently, so did a ton of other people. we ended up getting him because he didn't do so well on the safety test (he got a c because he started eating faster once a fake hand was going for the bowl) and because he flipped out the first time he was scheduled to be neutered. they were going to either send him to a mastiff rescue or euthanize him. we begged and pleaded for like 2 weeks and we finally got him... we had to sign a waiver, though.

now, he's at home and he is the most loving, loyal dog ever. i've hand-fed him from his bowl and he never showed any sign of eating faster or aggression and he has no problem with being rough housed with or anything. he and the dane play all the time and get along really well. the only problem is potty training, but that's going along pretty well so far.

i checked online to see what he could possibly be because he's a "mastiff mix"... as it turns out, i'm pretty positive he's a purebred cane corso. he doesn't have his ears clipped, but he does have his tail cropped. i decided to see how much cane corso puppies are worth... they're pretty goddamn expensive! anywhere between $1500-3000.

we lucked out! 🙂

UPDATE:

this dog's been ridiculous... he chews up everything. we don't have a yard, so i can't just let him out with my gf's dog (the great dane) to run around so he'll stop chewing. here are some things he's destroyed:

-my laptop
-my gf's desk
-my bike helmet (chewed to pieces as big as popcorn all over the garage)
-his kennel is bent to shit
-a bark collar (he managed to unclip it and chew it to death)
-the side of a music bench
-the stairs
-a photo album
-my gf's glasses
-a bunch of my gf's formal dresses
-my $150 pair of dress shoes

but i can't get rid of him... i'm too attached to him already.

here are updated pics:

Thread headed for imminent failure.

i was uploading pics and was going to put them in as soon as they were uploaded

Those are some nice dogs but their temperment (especially as bred in the US) has been questioned. I think you are doing it correctly by hand-feeding it to eliminate food aggression. God luck with the rest of the training.

We spent a lot of time, even with our Lab, in making sure there was never any food/toy aggression. Now even my 3 YO can stick his hand in the dog's mouth to get out a dog toy.

yeah, he does just fine with my gf's 2 year old and 7 year old. they jump all over him and everything and he hops on them and noses them and everything.

I hear they feed on babies and small children. Much like Pitbulls.

As far as I'm concerned that's the only good reason to own a pitbull.

Maybe if babies and small children weren't so delicious, pittbulls wouldn't be eating them!

Mmmm... babies.

And it's truly a shame your parents didn't own one.

my wife's family has had two cane corsos. very pretty dogs. as has already been mentioned, be careful of their temperament. best advice I can give is to socialize the hell out of it. their first cane got the needle after it turned on my wife and bit her on the nose. that dog would have killed me in 5 seconds flat if ever let off-leash.

their new one, which looks the same, is a big goof-ball.

Yeah I Have A pitbull lab mix from the pound. He was just over a year old when my Grandmother decided to feed him some table scrapes on a paper plate, plate starts to move so granny reaches down to hold said plate. Dog starts to growl at her, she says that dogs gonna bite me. I said granny put your hand back down there, dog starts to growl , I snatch him up and throw him against the wall. Problem solved, now anyone in the house can grab that dog's bowl without a peep.

it's pretty retarded to make a commitment like a dog with someone you have barely been dating...

i've barely been dating someone for 10 months?

getting relationship advice from you is so insightful. thank you.

we live together, jackhole.

so from making up a relationship with a stripper to living with a chick with kids and now pets in less than a year?

do you have problems being on your own alone?

Still a bad deal getting a dog with a chick you barely know.
