aliens is my absolute favorite sci fi ip. And the first 2 movies are amazing. This ip needs a properly done reboot and I think thats what we are seeing here. Very good.

Actually you people keep going to see recycled movies and so they keep making them because there is PROFIT to be had. There are piles of new and unusual scripts moving around the city but nobody wants to take chances in this economic climate.

If any of you read the EW feature last month, you'll know that this isn't an "Alien(s) prequel"

Ridley Scott specifically said in the interview that it is set in the same universe, and there will be a tie in somehow towards the end, but it is not an Alien(s) movie.

I am getting a bit of an Event Horizon vibe from it.

And I think I just nerdgasm'd. I think the last time I watched a trailer this many times was The Dark Knight. I have been waiting for this for months already. I feel like Cartman waiting for the Wii...

Since Ridley Scott is directing, I would bet big money that this flick will be more on the suspense side (like Alien) and less on the action side (like Aliens). The big question is, will today's action-obsessed fans be able to appreciate this type of movie, or will it fall flat?

I watched the trailer for this the other day and even with the statement from Ridley Scott I'd be surprised if this doesn't feature the aliens. Obviously the space jockey aliens are featured, but I remember seeing a scene with something in their helmet and some one walking through a corridor filled with what looked like eggs (not exactly the same but similar looking).

My guess is the aliens are a form of biological weapon used by the "space jockey" race who have spontaneously evolved a new life cycle the jockey guys cannot control. I bet the jockeys grow the eggs themselves, bombard a location with them and wait for the fully grown aliens to die out at a predetermined time. And it works great until chance mutation turns back on the genes for the queen cycle. Which explains why the eggs look different. Then again that's just been my theory based on what little we saw in Alien...but nothing seen here seems to change the idea much.

I remember reading one of the Alien off-shoot novels many years ago & that was the premise; they were purposely built biological weapons that went amok.

I've been watching the news on this since it first popped up. Originally it WAS supposed to be a 2 part prequel to Alien. After they wrote the story it evolved into a whole new story. While it is based in the Aliens universe and explores the Space Jockey from the first film, Ridley Scott is very adamant that there are no "aliens" as we have seen them in the rest of the films. This does not mean there are no xenomorphs, but they will appear in a different form because even though this isn't a "prequel", it does ultimately lead up to how things got where they are in Alien. If you look at the ship, it isn't exactly the same (tail fins are different). My guess is there are multiple of these ships in the movie.

For those who don't know, search for the original Alien trailer adn watch it, then watch the Prometheus trailer. You might notice something interesting in the soundtrack.

I am very excited for this as I'm a huge fan of the franchise. This is actually new territory. The only thing I'm kind of bummed about is they went all shiney/new look, as opposed to the rest of the movies. Everything has a further in the future look than the original which kind of takes away the feeling of it being prior.

What is funny is all the people on the interwebz saying "this looks like halo" and "this looks like deadspace". God I'm old.

I don't mind it too much when they create new stories in an established universe or a continuation of a storyline...
