New Postmaster General

A Trump sycophant will take over as the new Postmaster General:

I'm sure he won't be working hard behind the scenes to destroy another public service that Republicans including Trump want to see die as soon as possible. I bet Hillary would have done the same thing and I bet Biden would also do the same thing, given the chance.

Just in time for the election with possible heavy vote by mail results. Nothing to see here...

I think the more likely answer is someone more pliant who will work with Trump to try and use the government to attack Amazon because of the Washington Post's critical coverage.
That would be Trump's objective, yes, but I think Republicans are going along with it to further decimate the entire service so they can privatize more and more of it.

Yes, I imagine this guy while enabling Trump's corruption will also work with Republicans to cripple the service more generally.

In this case by happy accident for Republicans those are probably one and the same. USPS can demand higher rates from Amazon but because the market is competitive they will probably just go elsewhere, further starving the USPS of revenues and leaving them with large amounts of nonperforming assets that they are legally required to maintain strewn around the country.

I can see it now future legislation requiring the USPS to prepay the next 400 years of pensions immediately in the full amount due 400 years from now and then complaints that the USPS is running a deficit and is mismanaged.

Bingo
Then watch all the Federalist Society shitheads start mumbling that constitution didn't really mean anything about mail.
It meant Male but the founding fathers being illegal immigrants could not spell correctly

Fortunately the Postal Service is mandated by the Constitution so the GOP's hands are somewhat tied. They certainly can and will do everything they can to gut it, as they have been doing for the last twnety years plus.

That said, I strongly feel that the Democrat who resigned creating this vacancy acted like an idiot. For a meaningless protest he gave Trump essentially complete control over the governing body of the Postal Service. Couldn't he have stuck it out for another eighth months?

I mean what the USPS is doing now is smart, but Republicans want to get rid of it entirely and Trump is so corrupt he wants to use it to attack people who aren't nice to him.

USPS faces a very real problem due to mismanagement or at least conflicting mandates from Congress. They are required by law to maintain first class mail delivery to basically everywhere in the country, which requires huge infrastructure. Now that first class mail volumes have cratered they have all these buildings and nothing to do with them, which is why they embraced mass package delivery. Amazon only uses them because their rates are competitive though, if they raised them big time like Trump wants all that would happen is Amazon would say 'no thanks', and then USPS would be left with nothing.

Amazon is already moving to deliver its own packages, I suspect Trump has caused this trend to accelerate.

No doubt.

Another Betsy DeVos type of Trump appointee whose only purpose is to dismantle their agency and restructure it to fail.

Sounds like the classic Trump "The Art of the Deal" business plan at work here.
Are we the "creditors" left holding the bag?

This. Within weeks of Trump complaining about how much the USPS charges Amazon, the amount of Amazon packages being delivered by USPS in my area trickled to nothing, before then they were delivering the bulk of them., including all the Sunday ones. Now it's almost always Amazon contractors.

We can't have a whole group of people with Ok skills and a union, make a decent living. Those days are over.
Because of that very union. Back when Kennedy was the Pres, I hear, a mailman could actually live on less than two dollars an hour and it would have stayed that way without an illegal strike. Everybody who joined had to make a pledge they wouldn't strike, I guess, because back then there was still a sense that the Post Office was a sacred Forefathers Thingi
