Most high-performance supercars these days have sequential shifters with paddles behind the steering wheel. That makes shifting pretty easy as you don't have to take your hands away from the steering wheel when shifting.
The Carrera GT has a regular manual transmission so the shifter is mounted high up on the dash for easier access during quick maneuvers. It makes perfect sense.

Hmm...toned down a bit from the protoypes, but for the better IMHO.
BTW, that's not a sequential shifter, it's just a "normal" 6(?) speed. May have 7 gears, don't remember 100%. Not a big fan of that shifter location just because of personal preference, although I do see how it could be helpful at times. Would be interesting to see how the thing shifts as it's got a dual-plate clutch, which Porsche claims has no clutch chatter. If that is true it would be pretty impressive.
As said before, floor-hinged pedals are a Porsche trademark, as is the ignition key being on the left side of the steering wheel. Moreso a 911 thing than anything else (the key thing especially), but they've carried the ideas through into a couple other cars. I've got the floor hinged gas pedal in my car (brake & clutch are still top mounted) and personally I think it's a lot better. Having the brake & clutch floor mounted would be a little odd and ackward IMHO, but the gas feels great that way.
As for the dash, looks like it's right out of the 911 (996). Not surprised though as there's nothing wrong with it (as you can see). Not the first time they did this either as the 959 actually had like the exact same interior as a 964.
Not too sure about the top though...a removeable targa top is pretty nice, but IMHO I think a traditional (yet well made) soft-top would be a little nicer. Guess it could get in the way of the engine, so maybe this was the reasoning. Maybe have it work like the top on a F355?
Love the headlights, those things are awesome. Same for the brakes/wheels. Those ceramic brakes are awesome (alebit expensive).

And, you'll notice that in CART or IRL cars, where they have sequential shifters, it is directly behind the steering wheel, a lil off to the right of it. F1 cars have paddle shifters. They need there hands as close to the steering wheel as possible, because they need to make many shifts, as well as a lot of steering corrections, mind you at speeds over 150MPH (CART makes more shifts and steering inputs than IRL, because IRL is oval only for now, but may be going road course very soon!)

Yes the whole dash is VERY different, but the instrument panel looks like it might even be the same part.
As for the 959/964 comparison...in that case it is pretty much the whole interior.

yet another reason to have pedal mounted SMG shifters. why move your hands at all?

Sorry, my post was a bit ambigious. I meant the lack of a sequential shifter, since Elfenix was commenting about the crappiness of dash mounted shifters. I was agreeing with his preference to the Enzo's paddle-style.Originally posted by: NFS4
