I've already tried switching the antenna modes, which is about the only thing I can do without rebooting, and thus losing the time.

It says strong WiFi signal, and it lights up 3G if I kill the WiFi. Maybe the WiFi signal doesn't play nice with Android, and the 3G is getting killed by the countless tons of concrete and steel surrounding me.
