Network and firewall redundancy will be the fun part. The network redundancy would definitely cost money as I'd probably need to bring in DSL in addition to my cable link. My cable has been pretty reliable so I doubt I'd spend the money to do that.

I like textbooks, better than I like most professors in fact.

There is actually a graduate level course at the school that explains to their students (grads) that if students (generally meaning undergrads) cannot understand the teacher because of language difficulties, they will learn nothing from them.

Firewall redundancy is doable without too much effort, I think. I could cluster TMG VMs hosted on different hosts and then the cluster IP would be the gateway of the network. Ideally, one TMG server would be a VM and the main one would be a small, low-power appliance in order to maximize UPS run time.

But hey, that's okay, let's again pretend you have any merit to your personal attacks.

One scholarship for a non-immigrant citizen versus new lab equipment.

Again, the few, the many.

And you see any merit in your baseless assumptions? How is a citizen of Louisiana contributing more to Massachusetts' state income than a citizen of Massachusetts?

EDIT: Not to mention the whole "he probably can't even speak English like half the others" bit. A collectivist and a racist. Nice mix. Go join a white supremacist organization and burn some stuff.

He's been living full-time in MA since 2007, paying taxes on income to the state, taxes from sales tax, taxes from.... you should get the point.

Also, Ph.D students traditionally receive more financial support than undergrads for obvious reasons.

Indy, I'm not sure why you feel the need for redundancy at home.

Network redundancy would be nice, but not a requirement. Firewall redundancy (along with greater domain controller redundancy) would be nice for a variety of reasons. Right now, my main DC is old and very slow and it holds my DHCP server. I haven't bothered making DHCP redundant so if that server has to be rebooted, you might have to wait several minutes (15 or 20 minutes) before you can get an IP and access the network.

I've been thinking about redoing the entire domain and actually started doing it but got sidetracked. I may revisit it now that I will probably have a 16 GB box. I just need to think about RAIDing some drives for better disk I/O as running VMs on a single drive is PAINFUL.

That's enough of you.

I am a remarkably tolerant individual. I have no objections to people on their race or gender, despite my comments about women and driving. My objections are rooted in what I observe of people. If you are a teacher, you should speak clear English, and you should be able to understand it as well. How else can you teach students in the language? You cannot. If you are a student, how can you work with other students unless you can communicate in the same language? You cannot. I ask only for the EFFORT to improve.

As for the administration of this state, and its schools, better lab equipment, and better teachers, will have more benefit than scholarships to individual students. That's just numbers. Diversity should not be an admissions criteria. Income level should not be an admissions criteria. Quality of the student always should be the ONLY criteria.

And further, the stimulus money should not have been counted as a permanent fixture of the budget, nor should unions be getting large raises, nor should top administrative personnel be getting paid in excess of half a million per year.

I'll look into Exchange 2010 while I'm at it. I think after the incident this weekend and past experiences, I can host email more securely and ring it with all sorts of defensive security measures.

Are you hosting a website out of your house?

I always figured your VM's were on multiple drives. Ouch.

You learn to adapt. I realize there are extreme cases, but generally accents aren't so bad that they make it impossible to learn. But a racist like you would give no attempt. You'd rather just rant in a nef thread hoping that that someone will come in and suck you off.

btw, last I checked Asians are usually fucked the hardest by affirmative action, not whites. Once you graduate you'll be another pathetic balding white male complaining about people taking yer jerbs.

Damn those Asians studying harder! Damn those Asians working overtime! Damn those Asians lowering the wages of engineering and science jobs because there are proportionately less lazy spoiled white/black/Hispanic whores unwilling to think! Damn it all, give me the 50's back! We may have had lynchings, but damnit, we took care of each other!

I think I may consider building out with cascaded firewalls with a DMZ in the middle. To save costs and admin overhead, maybe keep the existing D-Link as the first line of defense and then the TMG as the internal firewall (or vice versa). I'll have to think about that a little more to come up with Pros and Cons. If I get the certificate-based wireless working, the D-Link would probably work best inside but it might be more secure to keep it outside the internal firewall and just open the necessary ports.

I have in the past and right now, am hosting a test/development site (see below).

I always figured your VM's were on multiple drives. Ouch.

I have two boxes -- my main server (which has a big RAID volume) hosts multiple VMs and performs OK, but right now, it only has 8 GB and I am hosting a lab environment for a friend who is creating a product that he hopes to sell.

The second box is my HTPC and I don't have a RAID config there, so VMs run on single drives. I've split the location a little -- some VMs run on one drive and some on another, but performance still sucks.

Ah, security - there's part of it.

I have basically no security here, I just... don't care.

I can lock my environment down to the point where it would be nearly impossible to hack into it from the outside. I am hoping TMG's inline malware and virus scanning capability would also reduce any phishing/social engineering hacks that my wife or others might inadvertently click.

Actually, now that I think about it, the most secure solution would probably be to place the WAP in the DMZ and require VPN access to connect to the internal network. I could even require that a VPN tunnel be engaged for ANY wireless network access.

Ah, the challenge of security. Not protecting it just from dedicated attacks, but protecting against the innocent lack of understanding of others. 😛

You, uh, might be getting a little crazy here. 😀
