My favorite in Mercenaries was the Fafnir. With the armor cut, it carried two heavy gauss rifle, two PPC's, and I think four ER large lasers. Light mechs would get knocked over, and one-hit KO's weren't all that uncommon.

You know how long it takes for a match with two Osiris without armor, max speed and jump jets, and a single flamethrower for a weapon? I think I ended up crushing the bot with jump jets after about thirty minutes.

Only thing I don't like about the light armor approach is how easily your mech gets twisted around when shot.

Do you find you have different configs for Arena vs Battles?

I did.

For battles I found you needed more sustainable firepower. For arenas I just went for heavy autocannons, sure you don't get many shots - but you don't need them. Close range and head shots = boom. Hell even if you were slightly off I normally found that it would blow off their arms/shoulders, making a second hit a sure kill...

I can't drive like a purist myself, but I can think like one. A Viper with any electronic assistance is an abomination.

Autocannons were such nice weapons. LBX was better than the standard ACs, just you had to get closer and they weighed more.
