New office computer

Just got word that my new office computer will be delivered and set up today after 3pm. No more working on this POS P3 800 with 17"CRT.

Wow you are spoiled...

edit: I love it how my users complain about the speed of the machine and ask when they're up for a new computer. Yea as soon as you remove that AOL, Yahoo, Webshots, Gator, Kazaa, and Hotbar.

Pays off working for a large university.

Not sure of the specs yet, but it should be a P4 2.4 or greater, 1gb ram, and 15" LCD or greater.

I got rid of my crappy PIII 1000EB a while ago and got a P4 2.4B.. I wish I'd gotten an AMD instead.. maybe I'll get an XP2800 or something soon..

And here I am working on a P3-733 inspiron 8000 🙁

And I'm the one that gets to buy this stuff!

Oh well, I don't have any need for anything more, at this point, so no need to burn money on upgrading.

Oh. So now it is from taxpayer's expense. Even better!

Also, I was given the go ahead and order a 17" LCD for myself from Dell, but couldn't bring myself to spend $450 on it, so I'll stick with my $220 15" LCD.

You have a 2.4 and you need an XP2800+! What difference would it make in your work productivity?

By the way I'm only picking on you ~ it's good to keep the systems up to par, it helps keep technology going. 🙂

Comqrap Evo P4 2.4, 256mb, 40gig 100rpm drive with a boulder for a head.

This thing is slower than my old Commodore 64. :| My old Celly 266@400 was faster!

And I've got 2 of 'em! At least I've got 17" crts, and soon to get 17" LCDs.

Is it slow because it is loaded with Bloatware?

Probably. This old P3 800 I am on right now is terrible when using java applications and serves all right for daily applications, but it is really lacking when I need to load up an instance of VMWare.

I have you beat. I use a PIII 533 w/17" monitor at work (it has 384MB RAM or something like that-I hardly ever watch it boot up-usually off to get coffee during that process). At least it's quiet though. Probably a ton of dust inside it. Fvck it...if it blows up I'll get a new one.

The problem w/ your VMWare is probably lack of RAM. You need at least a gig to be productive with it.

Not true. You need at least 256mb per instance of it running.

I don't know, I guess I'm just picky about it. If I'm going to be running it for any length of time I usually make a big ol' ramdrive and run the whole instance from RAM... makes it so much more bearable.

Well if that was how things were around here, no work could possibly get done.
