I'm going to head to my local Staples and see if they are incompetent so I can snag me a new Nexus 7 with that $30 off coupon. 😉

:colbert: I'm still waiting to see a side-by-side photo with the current Nexus 7. Seems like everyone just wants to compare it to ipad or some other brand. I hear the new N7 is 2mm thinner, but it's got to be longer.
Frankly, I'm not seeing any reason to upgrade.

So did my 8gb Nexus 7 last September. But I never used the credit because it required a Play store account with credit card on file. D: There's no way I'm giving Google my credit card number so they can tie it in with all the other data they harvest from me.

You can buy Visa and Mastercard gift cards and Google will never know who you are..

It's $20 more...

Is it really priced too high? Where is the other 7" 1080P tablet that's priced correctly?

The 16gb is $30 more than the old Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire HD. Its $100 more than the Nook HD. Its $80 more than the new Asus.

Its priced and spec'ed to appeal to geeks, not regular people. That makes it a lot different than last years release.

Yeah it's free after coupon, rewards and Staples gift card. I still have $60 balance left for a new Nexus 7, but I'll wait until more discounts to purchase the new one.

rewards and gift cards aren't free.

I got a free Big Mac after I gave McD's $3.

Well, someone might have given him the Staples gift card hence it being free. The rewards could be from his regular shopping habits so that could also equate to free.

Anyway, don't split hairs over what he's buying or not buying. 🙂

They are free for me. Literally, especially since rewards expire. I will have enough to buy the new one soon.

I am Premier Platinum Member ($20K annual) so the local manager always overwrites discounts for me. I applied 2 coupons today ($30 and $25) for the old Nexus. Premier member also gets 10% back on all tablets this week.

Someone could buy him a Nexus 7 but that wouldn't mean it was free.

I bought paper at Staples with 100% rewards for about $30. I can say the paper was free, or what I buy with the rewards is free; but they aren't both free.

You just have to stop being so literal about it. I understand what you're getting at, but I don't understand why you keep trying to force it.

We understand when we buy something and get rewards or get a gift card, it's not technically free. It's not like we're brain dead over here. The fact is it depends how you view it. Someone gave me a gift card, so yes, it was free for me but not them. I earned rewards by just shopping so essentially, yes they are free.

Just let it go big guy and move on.

So except for $20,000 they are free. 😉

lol Tom, you are never going to win this argument.

When I say literally "it's free for me". It means exactly that. $0 out of my pocket. Period.

Now can we get back to discussion on the NEW Nexus 7 because that's much more interesting.

The Kindle and Nook are both laggy pieces of junk with crippled operating systems, they are both overpriced compared to the Nexus.

I'm not sure why people are upset the new N7 doesn't use the S600. I have the old 16GB N7 ($189 at Staples 3 months ago) and its not slow at all. I mainly use it for reading and web surfing, but it plays Netflix fine and my daughter plays her games (subway surfer, etc) without complaint as well. What are you doing on it that is so slow?

I love my N7 and am glad I got it. I'm envious of the new N7's back camera, but I can't have everything.

It gets horribly slow the more you install on it. It gets super laggy. You don't even have to get close to the memory limit.

Holy bezel, Batman.

That thing looks worse than most cheap Chinese tablets. What's with all that top and bottom bezel? Stats may be great, but the look is a throwback.

IMO reviews should no longer ignore the storage sub-system performance of phones and tablets. It is true that Tegra 3 suffers from both its weak CPU performance and inadequate memory bandwidth/capacity, but storage-related hiccups and slow-downs are just as annoying and quickly get worse over time. Considering that it is THE biggest differentiator in pricing, tablets and phones should not get a pass on the quality of storage.

That's interesting. I wonder why?

From my experience, its the 1GB of RAM and the NAND getting filled up. A lot of apps keep background running processes going even when "closed". It adds up. Also, the NAND seems to really degrade in performance once you start getting about half full. It is frustrating for sure.

I think the soft nav buttons and the notification bar up top may be distorting people's view of the bezel. It certainly doesn't look bigger than the old Nexus 7...

They shrunk the side bezels and grew the top and bottom ones. If they had front firing speakers I'd call it a good trade, but that isn't the case. I don't think its a deal breaker though.
