The great thing about a Nexus device is that you can take matters into your own hands. Color calibration is easily within the realm of your control if you so choose.
Not true. A Nexus Device doesn't mean you automatically can calibrate the colors:

I don't think there was anything for the Nexus 7 either.
Sure devs found a way in the Nexus 4 and I'm thankful for that ability because I'd NEVER go back to the stock colors. With that said, I don't think the proper solution is to rely on the user performing calibrations. I'd still like to see decent out of the box capabilities I'm glad Google's stepped it up for the new Nexus 7.
