Someone @XDA compared black levels.

The iPad has crushed the complete lower third in those black level shots. Why is it so bad?

They did something wrong or we don't have enough info to know what it means. I'm looking at a similar chart on my new Nexus 7 and it doesn't look anything like that photo. It looks pretty much exactly like the one they show for the ipad.

The great thing about a Nexus device is that you can take matters into your own hands. Color calibration is easily within the realm of your control if you so choose.

Not true. A Nexus Device doesn't mean you automatically can calibrate the colors:

I don't think there was anything for the Nexus 7 either.

Sure devs found a way in the Nexus 4 and I'm thankful for that ability because I'd NEVER go back to the stock colors. With that said, I don't think the proper solution is to rely on the user performing calibrations. I'd still like to see decent out of the box capabilities I'm glad Google's stepped it up for the new Nexus 7.

Yes, I want great out of the box calibration. But I should ALWAYS be able to calibrate my screen on my own.
I'm sure HUNDREDS of users on here would agree. How many people on this forum have calibrated their monitor, HDTV, or other device?

If I had been stuck with stock calibration on my 70" Sharp, I'd probably just not use it. I think allowing user freedom to do what they want with their devices is of the utmost importance. It's why I don't shop Apple Products.

I don't know why people try to defend Apple though on a techspec front. Apple doesn't care about winning tech specs. They aren't a company for tech nerds. They sell to the hip/in/cool crowd. Tech Specs don't sell to them, the product aesthetics itself do. I never expect an Apple product to be better than an android product at the same pricepoint. But I do expect that when I buy an Apple product, all of my friends will be like OMG SO COOL, vs when I buy an android product my friends will be like, oh... whatever.
