So you guys who take offense to the ad never go to newegg or ZZF or any other site that sells something, find information on it, and then buy it in a retail store, right?

wtf are you talking about?
Drop by any electronics superstore.
Play around. Press a few buttons.
Talk to a salesperson. Browse to
your heart's content. Then, when
you know exactly what you want,
buy it at Newegg.com. Great prices.
Fast shipping. And more computers,
electronics and accessories than
you can cram inside four walls.

Not classy, for sure.

I work in retail, shop at newegg quite a bit, but after this I may considering moving more of my business over to zipzoomfly, etc. Sorry, but letting people "play with buttons" and "talk to salespeople" costs money and it is unfair to abuse that system.

Saw this ad in my popular science mag today from newegg:
VISIT ANY OF OUR
70,000 SHOWROOMS
WORLDWIDE.
Drop by any electronics superstore.

A bit exploitative, what do you think?
If I had my number in a publicly available place and advertised that I gave free advice, as places like BB, CC and CompUSA do, then there would be nothing wrong with that.Originally posted by: EvilYoda
if you don't see what's wrong with that, consider it like this:
A Best City USA is not open to give out free advice, nor as a display for manufacturer's items. It's there so they can sell stuff. You wouldn't expect to walk into a doctor's or lawyer's office, get 30 minutes of advice that you couldn't get otherwise and expect it to be free.
I can still see that people won't have a problem with this practice...so how about I get your phone # and call you for tech support and advice that you specialize in, since I want to minimize my costs too.
BB is not comission based. Neither is CC or CompUSA.Originally posted by: EvilYoda
ah well, like I said. and no, I can't say I do the whole abusing-a-B&M thing. I can't say the last time I bought something at BB or CC other than maybe a PMed hard drive or the usual couple of DVDs every week.
I guess my annoyance stems from having worked commission-based sales. People think they can treat us the same way and wonder why we make fun of them and have them leave the store.
ah well.

Agreed. I moved my business to monarch because I get no sales tax and prices are on par with newegg, sometimes cheaper.
