New Newegg ad...

So you guys who take offense to the ad never go to newegg or ZZF or any other site that sells something, find information on it, and then buy it in a retail store, right?

Why would someone do that? I'm not trying to be facetious, I just don't know why they would, since prices are usually cheaper online.

So I guess I haven't

The argument here is Newegg made a pretty tasteless ad. One the other hand, I really hate Best Buy, and they are the number 1 electronics retailer so they would be most 'abused' by this style of consumerism.... so a hesitant thumbs up by me for this ad.

I don't think people find it offensive, I think they find it tasteless. Big difference.

But to answer your question, no. If I can find all of the information I need on Newegg or ZZF, why would I pay more to get it in a retail store? I usually don't base my buying decisions on what the people who are selling it tell me though.

Nothing wrong with that ad.

Most people prefer to see something in person before you buy something. And if Bestbuy has the same item as Newegg, I sure will buy it from Newegg instead.

The only B&M that can compete with Newegg's prices (and sometimes beat them) is Fry's.

Drop by any electronics superstore.
Play around. Press a few buttons.
Talk to a salesperson. Browse to
your heart's content. Then, when
you know exactly what you want,
buy it at Newegg.com. Great prices.
Fast shipping. And more computers,
electronics and accessories than
you can cram inside four walls.

I do that all the time.

I love it when businesses grow some balls. It's awesome watching them busting on each other. Not only that, you get competition & better prices for consumers like us.

Dell owned Best Buy the other day 🙂

Agreed. I moved my business to monarch because I get no sales tax and prices are on par with newegg, sometimes cheaper.

A bit exploitative, what do you think?

I do all of that except talk to salespeople. I usually know more than them. The only way it would be wrong is if the salespeople (theoritically if they knew something) were on comission and you took up their time. Have you anal people seriously never gone to a B&M to check out a product and then bought it on-line?

if you don't see what's wrong with that, consider it like this:

A Best City USA is not open to give out free advice, nor as a display for manufacturer's items. It's there so they can sell stuff. You wouldn't expect to walk into a doctor's or lawyer's office, get 30 minutes of advice that you couldn't get otherwise and expect it to be free.

I can still see that people won't have a problem with this practice...so how about I get your phone # and call you for tech support and advice that you specialize in, since I want to minimize my costs too.
If I had my number in a publicly available place and advertised that I gave free advice, as places like BB, CC and CompUSA do, then there would be nothing wrong with that.

Sounds good to me, it's not like I've ever received anything close to customer service at BB, CC, or CUSA. I gladly abuse their B&M stores and then buy online. The only thing I'm taking advantage of is looking at the items in person before buying, I'm certainly not taking advantage of their knowledgable salespeople, they don't exist.

ah well, like I said. and no, I can't say I do the whole abusing-a-B&M thing. I can't say the last time I bought something at BB or CC other than maybe a PMed hard drive or the usual couple of DVDs every week.

I guess my annoyance stems from having worked commission-based sales. People think they can treat us the same way and wonder why we make fun of them and have them leave the store.

ah well.

BB is not comission based. Neither is CC or CompUSA.

Monarch is like 30 minutes from my house; best of both worlds 🙂
