Yeah I had a single mom move in upstairs a few years ago with 2 kids 5 and 6. On the weekends she took care of other kids too, bonus round. I always wondered if they were playing football upstairs at all hours, sounded like a pack of buffalo stomping from one room to the other. Thank god my lease was up, got the hell out of there. And I vowed to myself that I would never take a bottom apartment ever again, and to this day if I had to move back to an apartment, it would never be on the bottom floor, that's for sure.

At least you don't have dumb fucks who walk on their heels and pretend like they know how to play drums at 11PM. I need to fucking sleep, you fucking assholes! My HOA doesn't care. I'm going to pour chicken blood on their door next time they pull the drum shit while I'm sleeping.

It does seem with the increase in rental units for people that can't afford their own homes, neighborly disputes regarding noise will grow more and more. It should be housing law that people with young children or even those with lead feet need to put a 3 inch layer of rubber foam on their floors IF they receive multiple complaints.

I have some nutcases above me that like to tap and bang on hardwood floors 24/7. Know what its like to hear an obnoxious sound akin of someone hammering on your door all day? The noise travels so its loud in every single room. Out of my last 10 landlords, none of them were willing to do anything. Tough shit they say. Wait out your lease they say.

It should be that people learn to accept their station in life or rise above it if they can't take it.

Communal living <> dictating anothers life outside of reason. Kids and pets play. If you don't want pets around, pick a pet-free place.

There are apartments that you can have a house party and your neighbors would only hear a very minor sign if at all.

You have to play to pay.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... if you're sensitive to noise you can NOT live somewhere with connected living spaces. They aren't sound proof and you'll just end up hating your wall-mates. You know what you're getting into.

You can rent houses, you can rent rooms with less connected surfaces to lessen your chances, etc. It's just the chance you take in apartment life. You're rolling the dice with your neighbors, and sometimes you crap out.

Give the kids three cans of silly string and two cans of spray paint. Wait 45 minutes and then call the landlord to complain about the noise coming from above.

americans have it easy. You have plenty of land and huge houses that cost nothing.
Europeans who live in non-luxury apartments (because in those I doubt you can hear much noise) AND can't stand the noise do it because they can't afford a house.

Oh I'd have to resume my 12" subwoofer bass heavy music hobby from 6am to 11pm while wearing electronic earmuffs.

Is it just me or are Alky's attempts to make himself feel superior becoming more blatant?
no; it's entirely the same.

Like when people start talking to Hal; they think he's gotten worse... no they just talked to him.

I never thought I would say this in my entire life but in theory I agree with Alkymest. If you arent happy with your place in life, figure out a way to move up in the world.
One day I want a nice little house out in the country so I dont have to live near morons and assholes. I acknowledge that with the economy being what it is, and my current value in the marketplace, I cant afford that yet.

BUT, I will say that no matter our socioeconomic status, we should all try to be a little more civilized than we think we HAVE to be. This is especially true of neighbors with kids and pets.

Actually I think he IS getting worse LOL. He necroed a 1.5+ year old thread of mine in L&R to try to troll me, then tried to post in another of my threads that I hate my wife. He's hilarious even when he's trying to be an ass. This place wouldn't be half as entertaining without him.

I had a roommate like him my freshman year in college. You just had to sit back and laugh - he was a fairly smart guy but was completely oblivious as to how much of an asshole he was. Always funny as hell watching him, especially when he was drunk.

Back to the OP's problem. I'd call up the land lord immediately. The owner/manager of the property most likely doesn't have a clue that they're so obnoxious. Let them know.

I know the feeling. The last time I lived in an apartment, the guy below me would blast Salsa music until 2am. I talked to him about it and he told me it wasn't too loud.

That's when I decided to buy a house. :whiste:

Good point. However, I've rarely met a landlord who cares all that much about the noise as long as it's going on in the daytime. This isn't the sort of thing 90% of the landlords out there really care to deal with. Especially right now when the market favors them - renters are easy to find with the economy.

I hate to say it, but the 'move out' or find a top floor apartment crowd is probably right. Pretty sucky options though.

^this, even with video recording of my upstairs neighbor pounding on my door and threatening me with 'war' my management company didn't do anything. They don't want to get involved in any disputes.

You should approach her when she's silent but you know she's there. Knock on the door all friendly like, smiling and shit, use a bit of charisma, small talk, etc.

Then, kinda slip it in casually, something like, "hey xneighbor, I have odd sleep hours (or some shit) and am a really light sleeper, is it cool if you keep it down just a bit?" For bonus points, come with a little gift, something cheap life cookies or something.

If all else fails, play some ridiculously weird, looped, sex noises for hours on end when you're at work or something like that. Or just some extremely annoying, repetitive looped sound, like dinosaurs roaring or something.

ESTABLISH DOMINANCE, it might be too late a couple weeks down the road.

Apartment living sucks, period. Lived in them for oh...35 years or so. The best rule to follow is to not live in an apartment, ever.

What I don't understand is why people BUY a townhouse. You have a mortgage, just like someone who owns a house, but you still have neighbors. WHY would you do something like that? Duh.

If you absolutely must live in an apartment, the #1 rule to follow is ALWAYS live on the top floor. Corner apartment, if possible. You'll still have the manager that doesn't care your AC doesn't work, and the asshole neighbors with screaming kids and barking dogs, but at least you won't have anyone above you.

Sorry you're dealing with this OP. Time to move out. RENT a house if you can't buy one right now.
