But does IT carry a purse?:Q
Lots of children in South Africa have AIDS.
They got it through no fault of their own.
In addition to having a terminal illness as a child, they are stigmatized for having AIDs.
If you ever worried about having the wrong style of clothing as a kid, imagine this is worse to be picked on about.
If a muppet can help them be more accepted, that is wonderful.
That would require massive funding from the US and the UN, which would precipitate a chorus of howls from the more conservative segment of our populus. The problem in Africa runs much deeper than encouraging a change in lifestyle could ever hope to fix; you're dealing with a huge landmass, many different languages, no central means of disseminating information, etc. You can't just put a series of health information spots on the nightly news...this is almost a door-to-door undertaking. It's a mess.Originally posted by: Kenazo

I agree, but perhaps more should be done to change a lifestyle that is obliterating the african population. AIDS is one of those diseases that could be wiped out with in a generation. Sympathize with those that have it already, and those that will get it, but encourage the lifestyle change necessary to prevent future infections.

I was under the impression that the more common scenario is that they're born with it...lifestyle..? Children subjected to sexual molestation/rape(consensual or not..) is now a lifestyle ...?

Africa's problems are self inflicted. It's as much about politics as any other factor.
The whole continent, for the most part, is in constant turmoil.
Aids could be easily defeated if people had some personal responsibility and were not so selfish. Society tends to stigmatize all carriers of any disease. That's basic self preservation!

The problem is ignorance. The churches that have sway in many African countries prevent the governments from teaching the use of contraceptives.
