(and for those who care -- you can see my Ninja behind it :D) and no - that is NOT my beetle. - which i just realized you can't see in either of those pictures anyways so it doesn't matter :Q

Quick background - my fiance is over in Ireland until next monday... her old Altima is on its last leg so I thought i'd suprise her when she gets back by getting her a new car. (We were going to wait until May -- i took it upon myself to speed things up)

Anyhow - now i'm trying to figure out how to suprise it with it. My thoughts so far are:

1) when i pick her up from the airport - act like i can't find my car in the parking lot and end up right in front of the mazda. Then say i'm going to use the keyfob to honk the horn to try and find my car -- and act really surprised when it makes the car right next to us (the mazda) start honking. Sit back and watch the surprise that follows.

2) Take off the front plate from her car (a unique personalized tag) and pick her up in the mazda -- and then act really confused at the airport when i notice another car with the same plates as hers... sit back and watch as she figures out what has happened.

3) pick her up in my car - and have the mazda waiting for her in the driveway with a giant bow on top a'la the lexus ads.

regardless of what i do - i know she is going to freak out -- she has been wanting this exact car for a real long time now :)

so does anyone have any good ideas?

I'd wait till you get home from the Airport so you guys have time to talk about her trip and her flight home. Then as you're pulling up to your driveway, have the keys to her new car in a small box wrapped with the car in the driveway nice and sparkling.

Make reservations for dinner some place nice. Park the new car at said place 2 hours earlier. When you go to leave the resteraunt, lead her to the new car, and she will probably say "honey, that is the wrong car", To which you reply "oh, you are right, this is YOUR NEW CAR, I should take the old one home".

Cheers

3 is the best. cars with bows = nice gifts :D

did she specify that she wanted a mazda6? i just heard some story about a husband who surprised his wife with a car and she didn't like it so they went to marriage counseling. i'm sure that's not gonna happen (his wife was probably spoiled or something) but it's still something that you should consider to make sure she really wanted it.

anyhow, if i got a car, i'd be a happy wife, so i wish you the best :) and i bet she'll love it!

Probably three. My dream is to have mrsskoorb get up for work one day and when she walks into the garage instead of a maxima there is something nicer (harder to imagine, I know), and she simply happens upon it with no idea about it.

this is actually something i'm taking into consideration -- becuase i know she's going to have so much to say and be so excited to share her ireland stories -- i dont wnat to immediately take away from that by giving the car the spotlight.

however-- i really want to be able to give it to her as soon as possible. :)

as far as the giant bow goes -- i was actually thinking i could find a way to make it myself .. somehow.

yes -- in fact you have no idea what i had to go through to find this exact model in this exact color. it is EXACTLY what she wants. Like i said earlier - she had been planning on buying this spring. I thought i'd beat her too it.

one possible bad thing on this -- she' is going to be SOO jetlagged and so tired after a 9 hour flight - i'm not sure i want her driving back. ;)

You should do #1 and stop right in front of it and admire it...then she'll start admiring it...then she'll start talking about how she wants one...then you open the passenger door and let her in.

Also, congrats on the new car

get the matchbox m6 and give it to her at the airport...

drive home and notice the exact m6 at the garage...

first she'll be shocked...then she'll be on her knees...

:D

Depends on how it was done i suppose -- since she's going to want to keep her plates anyhow -- its just a matter seeing if we can transfer those plates to this car in time. (which i doubt)

but in order to avoid illegality - i would probably only do the front plate - and not put it on until i was at the airport. (the car at the moment only has a rear temporary tag as it is) and then make sure that i had backed into the spot.
Not sure if all that is too much effort or not.
