New Logitech G5

It's just like the old one.

I picked the G5 up at Best Buy. The older one was 50, but this newer one was for 70. This is my first mouse I've paid more than 20 bucks.

The extra button is too far away from my thumb.

I wouldn't say the older one's inferior. It's the former version.

The former ones will probably drop in price and will do just fine.

of course you wouldn't say it, you just bought one

just teasing about the inferiority though 😛

However I do believe they will be dropping the older G5, maybe even the MX518 - or if not dropping at least emphasizing the newer G5.

while that is just the UK page, it doesn't feature the older G5 at all

And while Best Buy might be ripping people off for $70 vs. $50, Buy.com seems to be a bit more reasonable...

Only $2 more (not $20), although no free shipping...

I would have bought this if it had come out about six months ago. As it is, my MX518 works well enough. Although it's nice to see that they listened to user feedback on this issue.

That being said, it's still lacking one button (the application thing) that was on the MX510/518.

yeah, only if you're an ultra low sensor that needs a 3 foot mouse pad to turn around without lifting the mouse

English please?

I'm assuming Ichigo was referring to the tests ran to measure mouse performance. A lot of the laser mice performed poorly because of skipping (loss of cursor tracking) when moving the mouse at high speeds.

Of course according to those same tests an MX500 is an even better performing mouse than the MX518 (and one of the best, period) - but this is all because they slant the weight towards the factors they deem most important - in this case it would be a mouse that performs best under low sensitivity settings.

2000 DPI vs 1600 DPI

What's the problem, sir?

At last.
Never understood the one-button thumb gaming mice.
Almost every shooter game puts the two thumb buttons to very good use.

I still like my MX500 best, after buying also the MX1000 and the new MX3200 combo.

I contacted logitech about the problematic middle button that a lot of people have with this mouse and they played dumb about it and gave me some bs about reinstalling the drivers 😛 - I saw in the other thread they have a new revision of it: link

Looks kinda weird. Any chance if I sent my G5 into warranty they'd send me one of the new revisions? That'd be cool.

After getting a G7, my MX518 is just a back-up now. Yes, it only has one thumb button but it does have the scroll wheel tilt left/right buttons which make-up for the loss of a thumb button. This new G5 may be the best of both worlds.
