I'll agree with you that the MX610 is one fantastic mouse. It's my least favourite for gaming, actually (I like slimmer symmetrical shapes for that), but for general usage it's really comfortable and just can't be beat. I've never once had any problems with laggy button or cursor response. It's always been perfect for, except for the times when it picks up some bad interference and flakes out, but that doesn't happen very often. Your problems with it seem kind of strange; you might want to talk to Logitech about that.
And there
is indeed a wired version of the MX610, called the MX400. It lacks the email and IM buttons, which is a shame, but everything else on it is identical. I'm surprised you haven't seen it in stores.
