They also over-used the guy with the electric guitar strapped to the vehicle. Not only that the guys sucks at playing the guitar. They should've spent the extra money and had someone like Slash play the part. At least he can shred. Both of those things really got under my skin. Otherwise it was a decent flick.
That would have been pretty cool :)

Sisu - 4/10 - Now streaming on Starz

Finnish goldminer meets Nazis in a grindhouse style over the top violent film.

The blood and gore was solid, the beautiful cinematography of the Lapland countryside was a high point.

But the dialogue was atrocious, the absolute bizarre behavior on when/how to kill the 'miner and what really sunk this movie was the the 'miners ability to resurrect himself from the dead so many times that it became a farce.

Did you watch dubbed or subtitled? Dubbed is always 👎

Farce? GTFOOH with that. Here is an example of what humans can do - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yogen...rmination under extreme adverse circumstances.

Shot 17 times. Not a unique thing. https://www.thenmusa.org/biographies/roy-p-benavidez/

There are more accounts like those.

I liked the movie. I may have rated it in this thread? 7/10.

You can only ask the audience to suspend their beliefs so many times before it just becomes laughable. He definitely survived the drowning, the hanging, the land mines, the beatings, being shot, and the finale of the plane crash...

i haven't had a data cap in 20 years on any of my contracts, so i really cannot say.
but, not 89gb in a day. maybe i would hit that if i am downloading a game, but not films.
I wonder if that was the day Steam pushed the Half Life 2 and Metro Exodus updates.

How long did it take you to escape that? More importantly, what made you go in there in the first place? Shortcut? No other way?

It's a National Park, it has a parking lot, its only a 2.5-mile hike in, the first one was chill aside from the 12ft climb up. The 2nd one started off fun, got more challenging, some interesting obstacles and "stemming" required. Then it was the chute, you have to drop down an old waterfall. You cant see the bottom, its pretty fuckin dark. From there its turn sideways and just side step as you feel both side pressing against your chest and back and you keep pushing... and then you are stuck. So you brace and push and attempt to go backwards to just say fuck it and crawl your out.

And yeah - I had a panic attack, and there was no going back once I dropped down that chute. Width is a measured 10-inches at its narrowest.

I'd done Zebra Slot before it had a name, Willis Creek was fun. Spooky Slot was an adventure!

well the oscars are a joke
Based on who won? I can't see the show yet (gotta get up early tomorrow for some crappy meetings) but I did see Conan's monologue. It wasn't the best and the musical was unnecessary. Poor guy. Gonna get rated as one of the weakest hosts in Oscars history.

The problem with Conan is that he isn’t funny. On the rare occasions when he has decent material, his delivery is awful. He looks like he should be funny but never gets there.

disagree, and I think a lot of post Oscar reviews also disagree about his hosting (most praise him as a highlight of the show).

I never liked Conan that much as host of his main late night talk shows, but that was a while ago, so I was interested to see how he evolved as he has been different teh few times I've seen him in the last few years. He was mostly very good at the Oscars. I was happily surprised and impressed. He had some misses of course, but overall, great job. I laughed out loud multiple times. I do agree the musical was not my jam, but other than that, just a few small misses, with lots of wins.

Conan and Craig Ferguson are the only late night hosts who were actually funny.

Conan's show was funny because he gets the guests really relaxed and saying funny stuff. Himself, all he mostly does is self-deprecating humor.

Craig I agree is pretty funny.

If you didn't like the monologue it's just not your thing. I thought the monologue was really good - with some misses in teh last third of it.
I guess I'm comparing him to Nikki Glaser (her joke delivery was impeccable!).

Maybe Conan would've worked better if Jordan Schlansky had been beside him.

i watched

Quest For Fire - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082484/reference/

a film that lived deep in the recesses of my mind, for i had seen this on release, at 9 years old, in 1981. I could not remember that i HAD seen it, but if you asked me at any point, what the first word for fire was, i would immediately tell you "ATR !".

Obviously, no real dialogues. Set sometime in a prehistorical age, it tells the story of a group of cavemen who are attacked (by a tribe of antropomorphic monekys, AKA dudes in gorilla suits) and, fleeing from the attack, they lose their precious eternal flame, the fire they keep burning always in their cave.
Given that they do not know how to create fire, only find it in nature, three of the group - most noticeably leader Ron Pearlman, in his first film role - are sent forth to find fire, and return it to the group.

Along the way the find a tribe of cannibals, less evolved than them, and they manage to steal a piece of burning wood, with which they rekindle their porta-fire contraption. They also save a young, hot and almost completely naked girl, who follows them aaaand remains pretty much naked for most of the film. There's even a handful of sex scenes .. which must be the reason why i'm totally ok with women being covered in mud. And naked.

Eventually they travel backwards, and the cherry to top off the cake is that the woman's tribe, being yet more advanced than the protagonists, teach them how to USE STICK TO MAKE ATR !

...
I mean .. it's old. It's got no dialogue. It's very determined in telling its own story, and does so well, almost, insistently.
Today, a film like this would be classed as "experimental". But, back in the 80s, this was basically a Natural Geographic documentary, to us. I might be biased because this was a profoundly forming film for me, but i do recommend time-travelling back to the 80s and watching it young, failing that i don't think you can recapture the magic of that moment.

As a piece of history, a solid 7/10. As a more modern piece of entertainment, not more than 5/10.
