interview done!

can you say DREAM job?!

far more then just a small electronic repair shop! it is small, just 4 guys, and they repair anything anyone brings into the store, but they also have portfolios with nfl teams and college teams to fix their equipment when needed! and they seemed just as excited to meet me as i was to learn about them!

the interview couldnt have gone better. they seem like truly outstanding people, and have been in business for 30 years. they told me they have been looking for someone who is passionate about electronics and have been coming up short every time they hire someone, and i am the first person theyve met that actually shows the specific type of interest that i do. and after a half hour or so of talking, they said they werent even looking for someone as well rounded as i seem, and they said i would probably end up running their entire store so the 3 technicians they have dont have to talk to customers (they said they dont really have anyone who is good at talking to customers, and they noticed i have good communication skills). we ended up talking for a full hour! not a single awkward moment.

i wont know for a week or so they said, but i think its down to a few calls to my references and background check just to make sure theres no surprises. i couldnt be more excited! this is exactly the job i have been looking for my entire life. i am more nervous then ever now, i want this job so bad! i really think i got it too!

ugh, so nerve wracking though!

HOLY CRAP update!

so, i see i have a voicemail today. it was from yesterday ( :( ) they called my old number, which i havent deactivated yet because i knew this might happen! i gave the bosses my new number when i met with them, apparently that didnt get to their HR girl! crap!

but anyway, the voicemail said basically "we want to setup a 2nd interview with you. we are finished with all of the applicants and the guys decided they want to speak with you again"

so holy crap! it looks like i got the job, but maybe i wont get it because i missed the voicemail! :(

i called them back of course, she didnt answer so i left her a voicemail explaining to call my new number... not sure what to think at the moment! i will be so upset if they passed on me to someone who answered their phone right away! not upset as in mad, just really bummed out!

edit! they called back! 2nd interview bright and early tomorrow morning! they want me to see the shop and meet everyone! so excited! sooooo freakin excited!

oh no, i dont think ill be making more then $20/hr to start... i dont know the starting pay yet but these are honest classy people, and boss told me on the phone that were meeting monday to formally discuss starting wage. he said they understand i have a lot of credentials so they want to make sure i am paid well enough to be happy.

then he said since he is looking for me to help him grow the business, there will of course be more money later. he said i can expect to live very comfortably, because they do a lot of high end deals where my cut can be generous bonus.

this company only has 5 employees, and they want me to manage the store! he said my social skills are something they dont have, and the fact that i will still be able to help with repairs and such means i should have different avenues of income!

this is so much more then money though! i have worked for over a decade in construction. high paced, high stress, low reward. this is a complete life change. and if i go on to learn how to repair the pro level broadcast equiptment that means ill be flying around the country with the boss at times on his all expense paid trips!

i couldnt be more excited right now! i feel like a kid!

all i would have to do is take the test to get my master electrician license.

and i would still be an installer. miserable.

and in this state, they make more like 70k. if you want to make more you have to run your own business. and again, its still construction... it sucks.

That just sounds a bit wierd...

But congratulations! Got something you like with potential for more.

theyre electronic repair technicians.... they stay in the back all day and troubleshoot broken tv's and camera equipment. boss said he has highly intelligent people but none of them like talking to customers.

certainly does sound like it! i got into the electrician union to chase money. i knew i liked electrical stuff, but once youve done it for 10 years you realize its just really a bunch of shit. it wouldnt be so bad if you had more time but nobody cares how good the work is they just want it to pass code. it has become really sad in the construction industry as of the last 5 years or so

yeah but that much money ruins lives. he used to be thin but then started earning a ton of money and got hooked on drugs. He moved away for a while and is back now and off the drugs but he is so fat and always screaming.

it is more true then imaginable. when i was making good money, i felt pretty invincible. same reason athletes blow millions till theyre broke

at least now though, for the first time in 12 years, i will be able to set a real budget. in construction you never really know what youre going to make any given week or course of the year. its really frustrating because it varies so widely.
