We're talking about a voluntary private religious group, not the law here.

Having to wear a seat belt in a car is not tyranny.
We're specifically discussing political ideology and the role it plays in restricting behavior. I don't think there is a single poster in P&N who doesn't know the substance of your version of the "more accurate, practical, moral approach."

People don't do bad things because of the tools they have.. they do them because they are retarded in the first place and no one ever attempts to teach, correct, or otherwise address this retardation.

:D

Of course there are some things that people really don't need, not that we should ban all of them of course. I do find it kind of strange to equate guns with Facebook though, perhaps drugs as the harm prevention is to the self as opposed to another.

@piasabird: Lol

But yea, Facebook makes it easier for people to cheat on their spouses. They just poke their eyes out to get attention, go on a date and 20 years of marriage are gone like that in one "poof!". But eh, maybe I'm just saying this because I really really hate Facebook :)

You must really hate Facebook if you joined AT P&N just to comment on this thread!

Welcome and remember not to take anything posted here personally or seriously! :p

Plus, this thread is kind of old.

And the religious right wonder why so many people are critical of religion? Stuff like this gives religion a bad name.

People were cheating on their spouses for thousands of years before facebook came along.

I don't have a problem with it. Many religions stress to not put yourself in a position of possible adultery and overall this is a very good practice for any marriage, putting yourself in that position is itself an act of disrespect for your spouse. So all this is really doing is saying don't be disrespectful to your spouse by chatting it up on facebook.

I don't see this as any different than saying don't hang out in singles bars.

I don't know about you, but I don't go to singles bars to keep in touch with old classmates, friends, and family.

Primary purpose of singles bars =/= Primary purpose of Facebook (for most people)

Then do not go to wal-mart, do not go outside, do not go to work, do not go grocery shopping, get rid of the internet all together,,,.

While ordering a cheeseburger I saw a cute lady at jack-in-the-box. She is a lot more tempting then anything on the internet could ever be.

So I should never go back to jack-in-the-box?

Communication makes it easy to cheat... who would have thought?

Ban reading and writing at the church?

In my mind it depends on what 'staff' and 'official' means. I would be pretty pissed if my employer was allowed to control my actions while not at work.

Should these people also never step foot in a bar/club?

No, they are not.

Social networking sites certainly make it easier, but the leading cause of infidelity is a spouse choosing to have sex outside of the marriage.

You are 100% correct but FB can get you into a situation that you wouldn't otherwise have gotten into.

Like an old boyfriend or girlfriend that you would have never considered calling or having more than a 2 minute conversation with if you ran into them but now all of a sudden you are communicating with them on a regular basis.

The person still has to make the decision to cheat but the avenue became easier with FB. Sort of like a married man going to the playboy ranch, it might not be the best place to go if you are concerned about your marriage. Then you throw in the entire "trust" issue with spouses talking to their ex's, even if it is innocent it has often led to issues.

Isn't FB listed as one of (not THE but one of) the reasons for divorce in quite a large percentage of US divorces?

If the cute chick at Jack-in-the-box happens to be an exgirlfriend of yours that really wants to bang you, it might be a good idea to stop going to that particular location.

facebook does not have the affair guarantee that ashleymadison.com has. Maybe he should ban ashleymadison.com accounts.

Pretty lame Amused. This is a private club and can tell members whatever they want. They can say you have to eat a rattle snake with pistachio ice-cream to ward off cheating I don't care. I don't have to go, it's not hurting me and govt is not paying for it.

FYI I don't have facebook because I'm not a girl or 12 yr boy.

Dont people have free will? What did Jesus die for?
??
Jesus was sent to earth to get people moving in the right direction. They had free will and they were seriously fucking it up. That's also why god had a massive flood and killed trillions of animals. They were fucking shit up!!

Jesus would not block facebook, but he would say that you shouldn't use it because it leads you away from god.
