Just got back from the mall were I was about to get the zen when I was told that a new ipod was in the tubes. rumor has it that it should be touch screen and maybe Wi-Fi, so it should be just like the iphone but w/o the phone. PC magazine says that it might be 100gb to compete with a new toshiba 160gb player. to those who think that this would cut into the iphone sales, well I don?t think it will because many people won?t buy the iphone due to plan that you must purchase to use the thing.

Apple is schedule to confirm on Wednesday (but you tech guys probably already know).

Here is the pc magazine link that I saw this in http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2177364,00.asp

what do you think?

We will definitely be getting new iPods wednesday. There are also rumors of new itunes services, such as wireless download.

I'm hoping they really do a good revamp of the iPod because I will more than likely be buying one. I currently have a Zune but want more space. 100+ GB would be GREAT!

Widescreen that is touch sensitive seems too good to be true, but it's something I'd love to see nonetheless.

all this would be great, it has to be great in order to stay in the lead of the current players. the zune has wifi but only to connect to other zunes but that could change with juat a firmware update. touch screen i think is the next stage other then just putting more space on it which is almost like old news.

kudos to george hotz see u at school if u dont have a high paying job yet

I just dont understand why they dont unlock the iPhone so you can choose any carrier, upgrade the drive space in it to 100GB and make a expansion card. No one likes to carry two devices around if they can just carry one.

here here, and while they're at it, make a CDMA iPhone so people who use a REAL cell company *coughVerizoncough* can use it.

My dream would be an iPhone minus the phone. I doubt that will happen, not so soon any ways, but in a year or so if I was able to get an iPod that mimiced the iPhone I would be happy.

from gizmodo:

iPod Shuffle ($79), iPod Nano ($149, $199), iPod Classic, ($249, $349), iPod Touch, ($299, $399), and iPhone 8GB ($399).

iPhone will be even MORE affordable, so they?re dropping the price of the 8GB model to $399. Two hundred dollar price drop.

Exclusive with iTunes, no login required, completely free access ot the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store while at Starbucks.

Their rollout starts October 2nd, starting NY and Seattle. 600 Stores, following up with San Francisco?s 350 stores in November, nothing in Christmas, and starts again in February ?08 with LA (600 stores), and March ?08 in Chicago. After these, that?s 25% of the Wi-Fi stores. In ?09, they hope to have all Wi-Fi enabled stores online.

The touch screen actually makes it very tempting for me, not a ipod fan. Especially with the wifi. If they made the screen 640x480 resolution, then it's be heaven. My ipaq has that resolution and I love it.

I think the limitation in space is due to the physical size. It's using flash.

I would love to get that iPod touch just for the wifi capabilities to have with me on my school campus so I can look at the internet w/o having to lug around a laptop and still have a decent selection of music for labs and the library... wonder when the release date is, my birthday is coming soon =)

yep, good stuff. cant believe they dropped the price that much on the 8gb. Wonder whats going to happen to the 4gb? Right before Jobs announced the price cut I thought he was going to introduce the iphone nano....maybe next time.

cant wait to see the wifi music store in action on my iphone

the new nano is an interesting design but eventually apple has to go to the wide side type of player that everybody else uses. The ipod touch is a step in the right direction, but people who want to watch videos on a 2 inch screen are going to find its a pain. I used to watch video on my 1.8 inch sansa and it was not feasible for long viewing sessions.

I've resisted getting an ipod for this long and was about to crack with the possiblity of an ipod that's much like the iphone, but 16gb as the largest size for the touch is an extreme disappointment. There's no reason they couldn't at least double that considering how cheap and compact memory is. I'm taking a wild guess that Apple is limiting the ipod so it doesn't cut into iphone sales. What a kick in the nuts.

I might get it anyway, maybe someone will get it for me for christmas.

yes... well not the most space I was hoping for 16gb weak. But still Wi-Fi and the web can?t beat it. The only real problem i see is, ur going to have to explain why u dont have an iphone to everyone who asks "is that an iphone?"

yea verzion sucks for not taking the iphone or for not having a sim card, damn family plan.

I was hoping for a nano with more space but that 16g touch ipod is looking really tempting...
If it was 32 Gigs I'd buy it with (only a minor hesitation because it's damn expensive.)

*edit*
After looking at Apple.com, the touch ipod looks like it's missing some of the iphone features like weather, mail, maps, calendar, and notes.

wow, people are really blasting apple about the $200 price drop on their forums....calling for class action lawsuits, refunds, etc. Its a little strange that even with the big ipod announcement today their stock is down almost $8.

edit: looks like apple just shut down their own forums

Is apple working with T-Mobile on this with their Hotspots?

T-Mobile UMA Hotspot@Home works at Starbucks.

What a bunch of idiots. Hey, let's all sue Intel and NVIDIA because the CPU and GPU we paid $400 for 6 months ago is now selling for $200.

I'm going to sue Sharp also because the LCD HDTV that I paid $1200 for last year is now selling for $500.

Don't forget to sue GM and Ford because last year's car is selling for a much lower price today.

LOL, these prissy morons deserve it. They paid $600 for a crippled phone that can't even do half the things my PPC-6700 phone can do and I paid $75 for it.

They shouldn't trade form over function and still pay $600 for a pile of iTrash just because Jobs says they should.

too bad the new itouch's don't have bluetooth. that would be a sweet little device if you could wirelessly hook it to your car stereo or head phones now. (my moto Q currently does this for MP3 work..) This device would be killer in my eyes if it had BT and a SD slot so you could add photos directly from a camera on the go.

I think Apple was too scared to just drop the iPod Classic and switch over to the Touch completely. iPod Touch + 160 gig HDD would be an awesome product, or even the 80 gig HDD would be great. Needless to say I'm still tempted by the 8 gig touch for $300, although the Web and other Apps are the biggest attraction for me.
