Sorry Apple, I'm not interested.

I was all ready to pre-order an iPod touch, but then I found out:

1) No iCal event entry function. This is just completely braindead.
2) No Mail client.
3) No Google Maps.
3) No weather widget.

Plus, as far as I can tell, there is no way to adjust the volume blindly. At least on the iPhone there are separate volume buttons.

Stupid.

The volume thing does suck but give it about 24 hours after they're released and you'll be able to have the rest of them.

Just picked up a new 8gig iPod nano. This is my first mp3ish player so I don't have anything to compare it to. I'm at the "Golly, gee whiz, look at that" stage. It is tiny and it seems to work as advertised. I have no interest in using it for videos so the small screen is good. I think it would have been better if iTunes wasn't set to auto-sync the first time the iPod is plugged in. iTunes found some wav files and promptly filled up the iPod. Once I figured that out, things got better. Then there is the thing about iTunes sticking music imported from CDs into the "Music" folder w/o hinting where it went. I imported the same CD about five times before I figured that out. I already figured out the volume lock thing so I'm good there. I have to admit that Apple has done an excellent job with the user interface.
