I talked to a Newegg CR and got a 25$ credit and bing cashback , after shipping hard drive was about 210$ 🙂

How did you manage that? Give us more details please.

Yay ordered an 80gb, had no idea about Bing CB until today so that sort of covers the $20 price gouge since I wouldn't have used it if I was lucky enough to get a cheap one yesterday. Came out to about $255 w/shipping not including the 10%.

Anyone know if these ship out of New Jersey?

And if there's a way to cajole CR into an additional credit please do tell!

They must get cleaned out in minutes whenever stock comes in. I just looked and they're OOS yet again, except the price looks higher.

as long as people keep taking their whole stock in 5 minutes, the price will keep going up. Automated price adjustments, welcome to capitalism.

Er, wtf? How did you manage that?

It was in stock for about an hour this time (which beats the five minutes of previous rounds), but newegg just bumped the price to 280 once it was OOS again.

It's $279 now. That is insane.

Yeah $280 is bizarre, I paid $249 around 5:30pm, saw it briefly get adjusted to $255 after it went out of stock, then it bumped to $279 an hour later so I'm not sure it's all automatic scripts. I feel for those who missed out, I'd be smashing keyboards if I didn't get one today after barely missing Thursday.

If I got one for $230 less Bing I'd happily sell out for +$70 and wait for the price to come back in, ZZF only bumped up their price to $236 w/free shipping and I'd expect they'll get some in early next week.

Slightly off topic question if anyone can help:

I currently run OEM preinstalled Vista HP x64 on my 1TB drive, it's a new machine without much on it so I'll be doing a fresh install onto the 80gb X25-m SSD which should be fairly painless - install using my OEM recovery disk, make the SSD primary in the BIOS, etc...

Now is there any alternative (just erasing files) to completely formatting the 1TB drive to reclaim whatever Vista was tying up, or is that my only option? And will Vista let me move all my crap over to the SSD before formatting or will the activation start barking at me because it now sees 2 installs on the same machine (again it's OEM version)?

Thanks

I was planning on getting a X25-E when the new ones came out. I haven't been able to find any news on when these might come out though...

How will it compare to the new version of the X25-M?

The question is how you convinced a CR you somehow deserved a free $25 😛

Agreed. I am not experienced enough to start an optimization/installation thread for the Intel SSDs but maybe some of our resident geniuses could do so. It would be a very valuable contribution to this forum.

windows installed on my i7 with the 160, installing visual studio 2008 and the surface sdk were blindingly fast (installed 7 and vs2008 on my laptop (with a 200gig 7200rpm drive) earlier this week, this install went 5 or 6 times faster. Only issue was 7 would not install until I unplugged my raid card and other internal drives, otherwise I am happy with this upgrade.

Anybody have an idea of when the Intel G2 drives will be available regularly?

when supply catches up with demand.
Is that a question nobody can answer right now?

why would we know when supply will catch up on demand?

You'll have to pardon my ignorant friend here Howard. Out of the mouths of babes as they say...

At any rate the answer is Wed Sept 23 at approximately 1:32pm eastern time. I'd say more but I'm under NDA.

intel is manufacturing them in bulk, people are buying them as soon as they are made. To predict when supply will meet demand, we have to ACCURATELY predict EXACTLY how many people will purchase the drive. I have no way of doing that.
It is no different then early release on the PS3, PS2, xbox360, wii, etc... supply will meet demand when it does, it is impossible to predict.

At this rate may just be until after Christmas things start becoming available - I think the buying volumes just increase from this time on in the year up until January.
