if its an intel cpu and you broke the fan, ask them to see if you can get a replacement for free. I totally messed up mine and after I explained what happened they gave me one for free. I was lucky too as it was a mess trying to remove one of the latches from the motherboard.
 
I've never seen a new fan that wouldn't turn. A more common defect would be excessive noise or rubbing. It's not likely to be the fan, but we can eliminate it as a problem by testing it.
 
I plugged it into the cha fan and cpu fan on my AMD build nothing. Plugged it into the cha fan on my current board, nothing.

I can order a new fan for Intel and wait 2 weeks or order a $20 fan on newegg and get it by Tuesday.
 
Surprising. Do you want a fancy fan? Are you going to overclock? I'm sure many members here have fan/heatsinks that aren't being used. Even I have a brand new one that came with my 2700K, it has the same pattern as the new LGA 1150 stuff.
 
No I just don't want to wait 2 weeks for a new fan...I seriously need this running soon because I have classes to do.

I am really screwed if I am to RMA the board because my AMD build is down because I have to wait 2 weeks to get a graphics card for it.
 
You could check out a stocker like is shown in ebay item 281231159326 for $7.50 shipped. That is pretty cheap, says it will be in your hand by the 23rd.
 
I have to use my newegg card and shoprunner, I really don't have a choice. I don't want to spend less then $20 because my interest rate is 27%.

I just need to know do I buy the fancy fan or do I RMA the board?

No. You don't buy a fancy fan until you can POST (you saw something on the monitor?) & get into BIOS (google it) & do this with all your stuff connected & working. You, as the builder, are the person to work this out...

If the fan is the only thing not working, then you replace it.
 
Nothing is happening with the CPU fan so I'm not risking my cpu to hook everything else up and see if it works.

It's not worth a fried cpu...

The bios does not recognize a cpu fan plugged in. It's either the fan or the board.
 
Modern CPUs will stop themselves from frying (talking about breaking stuff, I smoked a $600+ CPU back in the day; we all do dumb stuff). Try running it with the case open & a desk fan or something blowing into the case if you're worried.

Just using BIOS to check you can see HDD's or if you can send a picture over your video card isn't taxing the CPU.

Edit: You're correct, if BIOS dosn't see a CPU fan it's a bad sign. There's a chance you messed up your motherboard by squishing the metal stubs on the back against the case and/or frying something. But the fact you can enter BIOS is a good sign and, although entirely feasible, I've never seen a motherboard which can enter BIOS and is is also broken.

Clearly, you have not read the instructions for this forum which state that profanity is not allowed. How about practicing reading them before taking on your motherboard and case manuals.

I think you need to double and triple check to make sure you are checking your new CPU fan in a live fan header before proceeding. Check to make sure one of the metal connectors hasn't slipped partly out of the plastic plug. Also, you might want to take a fan that is known to be good, and use it to check the fan headers in your new board.
 
So if the bios works then the board is good? Is it a good chance I got a faulty cpu fan? I did try and see if it would spin on cha fans and cpu fans on my AMD plus a cha fan on the new build, I couldn't get it to half spin again.
 
Yes, if you can get into the BIOS, then a large majority of the parts are working.

As for the fan, try setting the fan speed to 100% in the BIOS. If it doesn't spin up, then yes you got a bad fan.
 
If you sent the cpu back to intel they handle rma's quickly. In all of my years I've only had to rma 1 cpu back to them my first q6600.
 
It goes back to newegg and they told me two weeks for new board amd cpu.

I was having a hard time understand the stuff in the forum so least this way I'll start fresh and have standoffs and won't mess everything up again, I hope.

Just hoping everything works out and in two weeks I'll have a computer.

This is only 2nd build and I have a lot to learn.

Maybe by my 4th or 5th build, I'll comprehend more. Just maybe,haha.

Newegg is very good about handling rma's as well. I've bought the majority of my stuff from them and they've always been good to me.
 
I spent about 10 hours watching and rewatching a build on my 1st build (which had good instructions with the board and went good) so I thought by my 2nd I could do it because I already did one. All I accomplished was shocking myself and frying stuff.

I watched a build with my same case a week ago as well.

I'm just not very good at this stuff, apparently.

I have a preferred account so I spent roughly $1500 on this build. $1200 on parts and $300 on accessories. Newegg is pretty fast with delivery so hoping return is less then 2 weeks.

I still need to buy a new card for my AMD build which I'll just keep putting off because ny budget is $250-300. I have to spend $250 to use my preferred account.
 
No you don't have to spend that much to use it you can spend whatever you like however the special financing kicks in at that purchase point.
