ugh...i really like the new itunes interface - its all nice and clean now.

only gripe i have with it, is that everytime i delete the shortcuts off my quick run, start menu (i move the itunes program icon to another folder and delete the itunes folder) and/or desktop, windows always has to "setup and configure" itunes - meaning it puts back the shortcuts each time i delete it from anyone of those 3 places. im pissed at that.

anyone else having this problem?

oh, and i played a song from my ipod in itunes...its really staticky....>.<

yep, thats also there too. you can also start/stop the song whenever you want in itunes. like you can play a song at this certain time, and end it at a certain time (whenever you want).

cliffs: gapless playback is in the original 5G ipods!!!

HELL YEAH BITCHES!!!!!! 😀

No love for 4G iPods 🙁

EDIT: What's with all the new high-end Mac stuff coming in black only?

I think Apple is trying to find something to make them stand out or uniqe by appearence, again. Cause there are a lot of iPod white devices out now.

Is this worth it? My 20GB just died on me a few days ago (4th gen).. more like 2 weeks ago, but still.... I need something to listen to!!!

all of the ipods are at good prices except for the 8GB nano. why get that when you can get a 30GB white or black video ipod for the same price?

i say a 30GB would be good for you, or a 2GB/4GB if you want color ipod nano.

Yep tested it out and gapless playback works just fine. Don't know why it took them this long.

They screwed up 🙁 i didn't want extra space... my Creative Vision M has still a better Screen ... 256K instead of 64K that the new ipod have, It also never had the bright screen problem and it can play XVID , DVIX and loads of other music/vidoe codec. IT also has a voice recorder , a FM radio which you can also be recorded , a calendar/planner which intergrates with Microsoft Outlook. It also has 4hr Video battery life and i bought this thing at $400 in Feb.

From what I saw, it looks like the holiday season will see the actual whole number revision with a more robust upgrade.

It looks like Apple's busienss model is to bring people away from cable/satellite and radio. Most of their products focus on content creation usign their systems and distribution using their systems, and that's why I think they are shying away from integrating too much stuff at once so that they can control the user experience to an extent. I have a lot of crap in Divx. xvid, mkv, so I too wish they had mroe support🙁

What about us 4th gen owners. I hope apple releases a firmware update with some of the 5th gen features like gapless playback.

Okay, I'm confused on how to get gapless playback. I have a 60 gig 5G.

I installed iTunes 7, then I plugged in the iPod and it scanned all the songs for gapless playback (this took forever). Then when I disconnected (after safely removing hardware), I tried listening to some songs (The Beatles Abbey Road medley, live albums), I heard a gap the same length as before. I played the songs straight through without fast forwarding and I still heard gaps. I don't hear gaps when I play them on my computer through foobar, or on my xbox through xbox media center. I'm encoding everything with lame at --alt preset standard, by the way

Is there something I'm missing? In iTunes, it says the iPod is up to date so I can't click "update" in the summary tab.

*EDIT* Okay I see there's a gapless album on the tag info. Can I just highlight every single song on my iPod and say it's a gapless album or do I have to do it one album at a time?

*EDIT2* Okay I tried it out on an album, and I STILL here gaps. They're still just as long as before.

I had a few issues with the gapless playback, and I think it needs to be done on an album by album basis, and you need to make sure that it syncs it.

I usually make any changes I need to with the iPod disconnected, and then connect it so it updates the songs.

Of the songs I've tried w/ gapless playback enabled, all but 1 have worked (the first song on the album still had the gap).

I'll try out some other albums on the way home.

gapless playback works fine for me. ive had linkin park - reanimation and the meteora albums play nonstop and its nice.

eug - yes its confirmed by macrumors.com that 640x480 videos are on the original 5G ipod.

Hmm. It's possible my iPod isn't up-to-date, even though it says it is.

This is according to macfixit.

I'll try this as soon as I get home. I'll update this post when I try that.

Okay I finally got gapless to work. My iPod wasn't up to date. It was still version 1.1.2, even though itunes says it was up to date. To update it, I had to go to the "help" menu on the top of the itunes screen and click on "check for updates." Then it worked.

I just got back from the Apple store to check out the new IPOD Video. I was expecting the video quality to be noticable different between the new and the previous generation, but I was totally wrong. I did a side-by-side comparison of a music video on both and could not find any difference.
