WTF! I just downloaded Tetris and tried to sync it and it says:

"A software update is required for this iPod to support games"

Looks like a firmware update is on the way with game support and possibly gapless playback for 5G iPods!! 😀

You paid $5 for Tetris? LOL

Why not? It's a game that I loved as a kid.

btw, itunes 7 is taking up 100mb of memory right now. i hope its just b/c its "analyzing for gapless playback."

playing back an mp3 and using 34MB

I've had it open for about an hour and am up to 60mb.

winamp 5.x has been running for days, and is only taking up 3.3MB 😀

Man... Mac is really milking the demand of the iPods. Great business strategy.... but what a mediocre improvement.

Where is the widescreen? Where is the bluetooth? PDA functionality? Built-in camera? Voice recorder? FM?

I know they can do it.... like years ago, but I guess money > progress.

I think I am gonna get an archos av500... been out a long time and it pwns the iPods

yeah FF is whoring me too (61MB).... i hope they somehow reduce its ram usage, that'd be quite nice. the worst is when FF hangs due to some incompatibility... it takes over all my ram😛

With all the caching that modern browsers do, 61MB is nothing. According to Activity Monitor, my Safari footprint regularly tops 600MB. :frown: But I don't get any thrashing so the memory manager must be doing its job.

yeah, the key is that firfox periodically crashes...and HARD..taking down the entire system...sure I can modify the ram usage, but the crashign is what really gets me

kind of feel bad for amazon🙁

if they want their service to get publicity, they need to make it work with windows media player 11 so it has a chance to compete with itunes and they need to release HD stuff soon to beat Apple's inclusion of 480p DVD-resolution video.

I cannot understand why people still b!tch about memory.

Right now iTunes is taking up 167 MB of mem, and my computer is still running without any slowdown. I mean, don't most ppl here have atleast a Gig?

I thought it did work with WMP and isn't it higher res than 640x480 (which is not 480p)?

Loosk to be the same resolution and they are indeed using the VC-1 codec from microsoft (same as used with WMV-HD files and it can be used on HD-DVD's) but it looks like their player msut be used for management and viewing.

Some key points:

1) iPod supports 640x480 H.264 video playback, up to 1.5 Mbps. <-- Good, but I was hoping for 2.5 Mbps.
2) Nanos and shuffles are aluminum.
3) The biggest nano is 8 GB, but only in black. <-- That is farking stupid.
4) The 4 GB nanos are silver, blue, green, pink.
5) The 2 GB nano is silver.
6) The shuffles are silver and much, much smaller.

Also: New iTunes 7, with H.264 640x480 TV shows and movies.

Sneak peek: New set top box next year with HDMI and wireless. <-- I'll probably buy one.

According to Ameesh:
"you can watch the content on your pc in WMP or the MCE interface or whatever you like. "

I haven't had a chance to try it out yet though.

i did... you have to download the files with their program (which i hate) but once you download you can play in wmp11.

Syncing with a pmp i think you have to use their program again (which i hate even more). the file it downloads has a .amazo extension for the potable version.

Aren't they supposed to have perpendicular recording drives to extend capacity to 200GB for disk units next year?

Forget flash ones - even 8GB is WAY too small. I'm struggling with 60GB now. :Q
