I can't say I'm surprised.
Just another reason for people to spend the extra $60 and grab an 8800GTS 320mb.
Both 8600GT/S and HD2600XT are easily the worst buy anyone could make right now. If you're sitting on the fence with a $200 budget, I say avoid these cards like the plague. Either wait for actual DX10 games or just get a X1950Pro or XT and call it a day.
EDIT: I wonder how much these will cost? IMO anything over $150 is highway robbery.
My thoughts are that NO current DX10 video card even the 8800 Ultra is going to be good enough for DX10.![]()
Riiiiight. And the reason that Crysis, the DX10 flagship game, runs smoothly on 8800s before optimization is...
Take you transparent anti-Nvidia FUD elsewhere.
All we've been seeing now are DX9 games lazily patched for DX10, I'm surprised performance isn't LOWER...
I don't see anywhere in Matt2's post where he's being anti Nvidia, just skeptic about how well current dx10 cards will actually perform in dx10. Although this is probably misguided seeing as how dx10 is supposed to be more efficient. The decrease in performance could very well be caused by developers being able to fit MORE on the screen; but this is all remains to be seen.
In any case, unless you are appealing to Matt2's past history of purporting anti-nvidia fud (which you make no mention of), it would seem you're the misguided one here.
