I can't say I'm surprised.

Just another reason for people to spend the extra $60 and grab an 8800GTS 320mb.

Both 8600GT/S and HD2600XT are easily the worst buy anyone could make right now. If you're sitting on the fence with a $200 budget, I say avoid these cards like the plague. Either wait for actual DX10 games or just get a X1950Pro or XT and call it a day.

EDIT: I wonder how much these will cost? IMO anything over $150 is highway robbery.

My thoughts are that NO current DX10 video card even the 8800 Ultra is going to be good enough for DX10. :(

Riiiiight. And the reason that Crysis, the DX10 flagship game, runs smoothly on 8800s before optimization is...

Take you transparent anti-Nvidia FUD elsewhere.
All we've been seeing now are DX9 games lazily patched for DX10, I'm surprised performance isn't LOWER...

I don't see anywhere in Matt2's post where he's being anti Nvidia, just skeptic about how well current dx10 cards will actually perform in dx10. Although this is probably misguided seeing as how dx10 is supposed to be more efficient. The decrease in performance could very well be caused by developers being able to fit MORE on the screen; but this is all remains to be seen.

In any case, unless you are appealing to Matt2's past history of purporting anti-nvidia fud (which you make no mention of), it would seem you're the misguided one here.

Why do people put so much stock in unofficial, unsubstantiated benchmarks run on prerelease hardware and prerelease drivers?

QFT. these benchmarks look fishy... it can't even beat a 8600gt? That's no faster than a 7600gt

They need an excuse for the trail of saliva running from one corner of their mouths? :)

I was quoting nemisismk2. He constantly makes subtle, anti-nvidia remarks. Look at his sig, thats all the proof needed.

Fixed

What stupid game company would release a game that does not play well on current hardware? They would not sell enough to even pay for the coffee in the break room.

If I recall correctly, HD 2600XT has 8 ROPs (4x2) and 4 texture units with 128-bit memory interface and 120 stream processors. Even if these benchmarks are *fake*, no one should expect any miracles. 7900GT/7950GT/x1950pro/1950xt will wipe the floor with ANY mid-range Geforce 8 or HD series cards for the same or lower prices.

I believe it is 4 ROPs and 4x2 texture units.

Basically it is bottlenecked again as usual with ATI cards, not to mention it really only has 24 shader units compared to 8600 32

Just bad programming for DX10 so far is my guess. Crysis runs uber smooth as far as we can tell by the videos running on supposed 8800's.

This makes me wonder what the hell the delay was for these chips. We now know it wasn't to increase performance.

I wonder how much trouble they're having on 65nm? 65nm process also begs the question of how high these things will OC.

could be the 65nm manufacturing process, shift in architecture style, and/or the merger into DAAMIT :D

Is this really what HD2600 going to be?? lower than 8600?!

Damn it, I was waiting for HD2600 for a new build. Maybe I should take on Nvidia instead...

Well after seeing how bad the 2900 series were ... I honestly wasn't expecting much for the 2600 series ... it does seem like AMD/ATI really messed up real bad this time around ... first those cards were delayed months, without any clear reason ... then when they come up it was really crapola ... and I though a few days ago there was rumor that even the Barcelona family of CPU's are going to be a few months late ... I honestly dun know what those upper managements are thinking in AMD/ATI ... delays + low performing part always means trouble.

And they're still trying to place these 2600 series in the $99 - $199 price brackets ... someone obviously didn't do their Economics 101 homework here.
