New guy at work

Leros

Lifer
Got a new guy at work, he's kind of interesting. He's looks totally unkept: crazy guy beard, long hair, wears crazy shirts and scrubs. Every day be brings two cans of beans to work. He eats them cold out of a can at his desk. I don't know what to think of him yet. He's probably a genius.

We're all software engineers.

What's going on here? Is this the first oddball engineer that you've encountered?

While at internships, I was exposed to (1) the guy who walks everywhere backwards, (2) the guy who wears a suit everyday and then walks home in 95F humidity while wearing full suit, and (3) the guy who ONLY eats potato chips, french fries and ketchup. That was at just one place.

I've gotten so use to oddball engineers that I hardly notice anything at all. Hell, I'm probably described as the guy most likely to be harvesting organs in West Hollywood.

it's tough being the new guy. hope you and your co-workers are making him feel welcome. as for his diet that's very personal; he might be nearly broke after being unemployed, may be a vegatarian, or may just appreciate the value of economical protein.

i hope he turns out to be a good team player and an asset to your workplace.

So you're the new guy at Leros' workplace?

I thought it was ballsy of a guy that started in another group where I work yesterday to come in on his first day in jeans and sneakers.

Not that it's really frowned upon at times to dress like that, but first day is a bit ballsy IMO.

I thought the OP was describing me. Software engineer, beard, scrubs...it was a little weird. at least now i can assume that people think of me as a genius before talking with me.

I eat a can of beans straight now and again... they're healthy and quite yummy for when ur lazy. <3 the Goya easy open lids. Just pop one open, drain liquid, grab a spoon and you got a meal. My favorite is the red kidney beans.

Unkempt

un·kempt/ˌənˈkem(p)t/
Adjective:
(esp. of a person) Having an untidy or disheveled appearance.
Synonyms:
disheveled - dishevelled - untidy - slovenly - scruffy

Ehh, I vote for genius. unkept + long beard = wizard or homeless
If HR did their job, he's a wizard.
If HR bombed, then it's uncertain at this point.

To be a wizard, one pretty much has to be a genius.
