Sure, if you like the ghetto versions.

Not sure what you mean by "ghetto".

I'm also personally fond of being able to use my own domain name with gmail without having to jump through hoops. And integrating in all the other google apps with it. And google voice, especially the transcription -> email feature. And the sync of all the google services with my android devices. Oh and let's not forget LDAP sync either...

And drag'n'drop works just fine for me. As do filters - with no limitations. Search indexing is nice and fast. Contact sync is awesome. And preview... yeah, the 1-line preview is usually far more than enough.

I relegated my hotmail account to "spam" email duties years ago, cause it sucks just THAT MUCH.

Show me how I can preview a complete email in gmail?

Show me how I can drag n drop an email without having to go to the check box?

Regarding the latter... there's a "gripper" on the left side of the message right next to the checkbox.

Regarding the former, just click on it. You'll have to do the same damn thing in hotmail.

In hotmail, I can click on any part of the email line, not just a single spot to drag n drop.

In hotmail, I can view all of my email in one window and with a preview window positioned where I like it, I can preview a complete email. You're telling me having to open the email is better? Not sure if serious.

FYI ... you only need this part of the link to get to old Yahoo Mail

New mail is terrible, mainly due to all the ads. If I block the ads with AdBlock, then some of the Compose features or the Contacts list do not work correct. And sometimes, the content within an email requires AdBlock to be Off or it does not display the entire email.

I noticed that a few weeks ago. I was on Gmail's new look and couldn't find some function. Turns out AdBlock kept it from working.

Good thing the text ads in Gmail aren't too intrusive. I've been trying to get better about unblocking non-annoying ads lately. The banner ads here aren't so bad, they don't mess with the layout or produce sound or popup windows so they can stay and make a smidgen of money for Anand. I have no remorse blocking annoying ads though.

You "automagically" preview the first email in hotmail when you log in, no?

Actually, no. I just logged into my hotmail account. You still have to click on the FIRST message to preview it. Then each subsequent message. At least in the default view. Absolutely the same thing you'd do with gmail.

In fact, in gmail, you get to see (part of) the first line of the actual email BODY in the summary line right next to the message subject, which is more than what hotmail gives you (subject line only).

Sure, I have to click on an email to preview it in hotmail but it still provides me with my list of emails. I don't have to open the email. And if I decide to delete the email, it automatically previews the email below it.

In gmail, I click on the email and it opens the email. I can't see my list of emails anymore. And if I decide to delete the email, it brings me back to the email list.

edit - in hotmail options, I can make the first email automatically be viewable in the reading(preview) panel.

What's happening? Am I in the twilight zone? The new gmail happened last year and now Rossman is back, posting like his old self? What year is it?

Okay, you got me there. Gmail sucks. 🙄

Come on brah, do you really think there's anything that gmail can't do that hotmail can? lol

I don't understand why they feel the need to fuck with something that works perfectly.

Change is good, but when you're just doing cosmetic change just for the hell of it in the name of "progress." You can keep the change.

Google is trying to unify their brand across all services, a la Apple. Look at the Google Play store, the web search, gmail, youtube - even Ice Cream Sandwich on Android. They are all beginning to look very similar.

I, for one, embrace the changes. The default gmail look isn't that good, but compact is just fine for my needs.

The writing was on the wall for google as soon as corporate started to panic over google+

DONT PANIC. That is all.
