Russia is already building a plane that is supposed to match this.
China has a plane in development. Should be ready in 10 years.
Russia already makes airplanes that are fast and much more maneuverable. However, that's not what makes the F-22 dominant. If you have to fly that low and slow to perform these crazy moves you're already dead. It will still be a very long time until China and Russia can match the total package, which is amazing considering the project was started 20 years ago.

Think of how many suicide bombers that could kill!
Fantastic!
Politics and News is where your post belongs. You're taking political cheapshots and you know it.

If you are talking about the Cobra manuver, that feat was possible due to thrust vectoring. The raptor has that, so I would argue that any Russian plane is more maneuverable at this point.

It's possible, but it doesn't look like anyone is going to buy either the Su-37 or the MiG-35/1.42.Originally posted by: Aimster
I think the new Russian planes will be produced.
Russia is trying to boost their military. Their economy is growing so I don't see it as a problem.
Also China wants nice new Russian airplanes. Same with India and the possibly even the Middle East.

If they couldn't/wouldn't build them because of funding, it seems unlikely they'll build the the true "5th generation" fighter.Originally posted by: ed21x

both those planes are hardly 'next gen' as they share the same airframe with the su-27 give or take thrust vectoring and canards.

All this fancy maneuver is great for air show, but it's all about seeing your enemy first and shoot him first then get the heck out of there, the F-22 should do well in that role. If future wars are anything like the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the F-22 has no role, where as the propeller-driven, extremely slow, and unmanned Predators will be much more valuable.

He won't be saying that when aliens invade.

I think pork-barrel politicians in general are wasteful. As a matter of fact, let us cut some political jobs and build more Raptors.
