hpkeeper,

first off, they are in no way considered 'pop', more so folk/rock. Secondly, their sound is UNIQUE, and that is what makes them my favourite band, because they do not sound like any other band out there. I am not the only one who believes this due to the fact that they have the 3rd most popular concerts in 2000.

<< what do you find that is so great about him? >>

He has one of the most unique (and IMO one of the best) voices around. He writes songs that are as good or better as ANYONE else's out there today. He is a great guitar player, and he has a great band.

<< I find it hard to respect a band that uses symphony instruments >>

Then maybe you should try broadening your horizons. Just because a member of the band happens to play an (electric) violin doesn't make it a "symphony" instrument. Obviously you've never heard any type of violin playing OTHER than in a symphony.

...and finally, DMB is not pop/rock. More folk than anything I guess.

<< It's Dave Matthews Band. I was confused at first too. >>

Damnit, why did you have to tell him?

<< "I Did It" is alright, a bit of an acquired taste, but has a lot of "pop" in it, something that is clearly evident from producer Glen Ballard. >>

I think this new song sucks goat balls:Q

<< No Offense to those of you who like him but I think that

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND SUCKS!

what do you find that is so great about him? allot of my friends like him and I find it hard to distiguish/understand his lyrics... and I find it hard to respect a band that uses symphony instruments (i.e. - Violin, viola, Trumpets) in their music that is supposedly rock/pop, if you are gonna have those instruments, have a symphony.... That's just my opinion, I'm not saying it's bad, I just don't prefer it...

WHY DO YOU LIKE HIM?

Go suck on Janet Reno's left breast:eek:

Complex rhythms. A beautiful singing voice. A prodigal bassist. A good saxaphonist, a very good violinist, and one of the best - if not the best - drummers in the business.

Good enough?

hpkeeper,

To each his own, right? He doesn't suck; you just don't like him. I'd imagine there are many bands you like that suck... :p

warpo, I completely agree with you. Dave writes most of his own stuff, the violin and sax add another dimension, depth to the music. Konichiwa is right, don't pigeon hole certain instruments to certain music. The depth and the meshing of the different sounds definitely makes them unique. Hp, you should see Boyd play that violin. The energy and intensity that he puts into that instrument will at least make you respect him as a musician.

The fact that they had the 3rd highest grossing concert tour without a new CD, definitely shows their popularity. For the fans of the band, see them in concert if you haven't, they fucking rock!

NFS4,

Give it time. I'll be honest in saying that BTCS wasn't that impressive an album, upon initial listening, but it does grow on you. :)

<< I think the true DMB fans will despise this album. "I Did It" is alright, a bit of an acquired taste, but has a lot of "pop" in it, something that is clearly evident from producer Glen Ballard.

I was saddened when they hired Ballard, whose background is strong in pop music. Not only will we not see tour favorites as Grey Street and Bartender on this CD, but it will also usher a whole new group of "crash heads". Anyone that's been to a concert know exactly who they are.

Champo,

I have faith in the guys. Their producer could be Alanis Morrisette [sic?], for all I care, and I think the album would still be a great one. :)

Entity,

I didn't like BFTCS at first at all. It took some time, but it went from my least favorite to being my definite favorite DMB studio CD. I think this one will grow on us. I'm probably gonna go get it the first day.

Konichiwa, thanks for the link. Any chance If I send you some Cd-rs and postage, that you'd burn some of those concerts for me? :)

Try Napster, I've seen a lot of the summer concerts up there recently. To search, just do "Dave Matthews Band - XX.XX.XX" (where XX is the date of the show, don't forget the periods, that's how everyone dates them instead of XX/XX/XX or XX-XX-XX).

If you want higher quality, go for .shn. Try etree.org for links to FTP sites and locations. The average .shn file is about ten times larger than .mp3.

hpkeeper, everyone's got their own opinion...

I like DMB mainly because the way everyone else does...they're unique. To truly experience them however, go to a concert. The fans are cool too, even though it's starting to be an Abercrombie & Fitch type crowd where it's almost nothing but teenyboppers and frat guys going because their girlfriend likes the band and they have no idea who it is other than a chance to score some weed. (That's my theory anyway).

Not to mention, they have one of the most talented drummers alive today.

If you appreciate music, you'd easily be able to appreciate DMB.

I'll have to take back the comment I made about the song. The song that I downloaded said "I Did It" but it turns out that wasn't the song at all. I heard the real song on the radio last night and it rocked. I downloaded it from Napster and am listening to it now.

Now the question is, what sucky DMB song was I listening to?:Q

I had the same problem... the file was called "I Did It (studio version)" or something, but it was a totally different song.

This also happened to me with the Blink 182 song "Man Overboard" a while back.

that is the work of these goons:

StopNapster

When I downloaded it and listened to it I knew that wasn't DMB... but I've been burned before so I know now to be skeptical.
