My first foray into digital photography. I bought a Canon S2-IS about three weeks ago, and I'm slowly getting acclimated to it. Here's a few pics taken in my yard.
The raccoon showed up in late afternoon, along with his girlfriend/wife. They were pretty skittish and took off as soon as I got a bit too close for comfort.
Now, just a short while ago I went into the yard to fire up the BBQ when I spotted Tuxie doing battle with a young T-Rex. It was entertaining. This little dragon held his own and was agressive as all get up. Finally, he made his break to the palm tree a few yards away, with the cat in pursuit. He hit the tree about the same time she hit his tail. He wouldn't release his grip on the trunk, and my cat wouldn't let go of his tail. Something had to give...snap went the tail and he was gone up the tree in a flash.

Finally, after that delicious BBQ, I treated myself to the last piece of my homemade Pumpkin Pie

I must say I'm impressed with this toy. I have no idea what I'm doing, and half the buttons and gadgets haven't been touched yet. Those pics were just point and shoot, fully automatic. I imagine with some tweaking and manual adjustments, I may be able to feel less guilty about putting down my old Nikon F3.

I know, I know. Like I said, I'm still learning how to use this thing. Give me the weekend and I suspect I'll have some 1600 X 1200 shots of Pamela Anderson to show off.

Have any trips coming up any time soon? I got my fz20 recently (kinda similar, long zoom prosumer type camera, although not as compact) and here are some large pics for those of you who want to see the details along with smaller resizes for the 56k'ers. First one is golden gate is SF, and the rest are from my vacation in vietnam.

You'll really enjoy the long zoom. The only reason I didn't get a rebel as a good long zoom lens would cost me at least a grand where these offer nice all-in-one lenses.

Great shots! I just ordered a S2 myself from amazon, and I'm waiting for it to be shipped. If you have any more pics you took with it, feel free to post them in this thread.

What type of SD card did you get for it?

Damn! I'm impressed. Those are some very nice photos, indeed. I'm starting to see why digital cameras are so popular: instant gratification! I may be headed out to San Fran next month. If so, hopefully I'll be more adept at using the camera, and give it a good workout.

1GB Sandisk Ultra II SD card...the same one you're thinking of getting, I believe. ;)

South Florida, Fort Lauderdale area. They're all over the place. Although this one was a bit larger than most I see in my yard, and it's also a different species than I'm used to seeing.

I was...but the A-Data someone posted in that thread looks like a better deal. The UII's are ~60-66x, and cost ~$90 for 1GB. The A-Data @ Newegg is ~150X, and 1GB is $65, 2GB is $129. Have you looked into any accessories for it yet? I already ordered some 2300mAh batteries and a charger for it, I'll need to pick up a bag, and at some point, a tripod...

I love my new S2,but I seem to be quite the noob when it comes to indoor shots. For some reason they all come out blurry or too dark. I have this awesome camera but at times its a little overwhelming all of the options it has.

You won't regret having those features. I got a small P&S, and while it is nice and compact (fits in my jeans), it's very limited in adjusting any settings. Thinking of stepping up to the prosumer level now... It's bulkier but the picture qualities are well worth it.

I picked up the Ridata 1GB at newegg for ~$56. Works extremely well capturing at high res video (640x400@30fps or something) and taking full res 5mp shots at whatever it's highest speed is (3fps isn't it?).

I picked up this charger, and this eight-pack of AA NiMH's.
Also scored this camera case from LowePro. It suits my needs perfectly fine.

The camera can write to the card @ up to 3mb/s. Even the 60x Ultra II is overkill for that @ ~10mb/s. The speed of the rapid shots is 2.4fps. The only place where the higher speed would be taken advantage of is in camera to pc xfers via USB 2.0.

I'll check out that Ridata...

:)

Nice choices...I wasn't even aware 2500's were out there..a bit pricey though.

I picked up this kit with a charger and 12 2300mAh's for $27 shipped...

Yeah, but if I don't treat myself, my wife and kids will spend the money on something else...

I went to the zoo today and took this pick

pic

I'm slowly getting the feel for my new FZ5. New cameras have so many settings.
