I'm slowly getting the feel for my new FZ5. New cameras have so many settings.

Awesome pic! The FZ5 is a very nice cam from all I've read...

Wow! Give me the details on that pic. Very cool, indeed!

I bought a Canon 20D and a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens (Wallydraigle AKA lirion's bad influence ;)) and went to Hamlin Beach State Park in NY along Lake Ontario. I used ISO 1600 for this fellow so I could shoot him hand held. It's a very cooperative Ruby Meadowhawk.

I have a suggestion for you. There is a program called Neat image, and I have been pimping it for photographers here. What it does is remove noise. I used it on the above image, and while noise on the 20D isn't bad you can see it. It's gone with this software even at ISO 3200. Absolutely amazing. On their website there is a full demo version who's only restriction is that it saves in JPEG only. Not a serious limitation for most.

Using a tripod is preferred, and fine for situations where what you are shooting isn't moving, but dragonflies and such won't stay still forever, and if it's windy flowers can be tricky. Besides, you aren't always going to have it, nor feel like carrying it. You can effectively get a two stop increase in useable exposure. Give the proggy a try.

The more I see of your camera, the more impressed I am with it. It's certainly a great advance in the previous generation.

Good pics!
