Total Gaming Network released some news about CS: Source Beta. They are saying maybe we can see CS: Source Beta in near future and it can be use new Source Engine which is used in L4D2.

http://www.totalgamingnetwork.com/sh...85#post2736185

This all came about when a CS:S beta tab appeared in the forums on steam...is Gabe just messing with us or is it for real?

Cleaned up the mess you made there.

I miss the 1.5 days :(

I'll opt in, see how it plays. I played since the beta days, when the game was still an addon/run by the asian kid. I played 1.6 for x,xxx hours in high school (the game peaked around 1.5 imo, competitively), and source was a huge let down...I don't expect much from this new version, but we'll see.

CS pre Steam was awesome. I have no idea how many hours were wasted on that.

My theory is that this is for the mac client as I suspect that's one game valve will be sure is available on mac. However that might require going to the newest engine, so a potential refresh could be in the mix. Would be nice, css has been kinda neglected.

That's because it doesn't need anything, I mean it has it's quirks, but they don't need to be fixed. Seriously the game works. It's fun, don't screw with it. The community is already divided with 1.6 and Source. It doesn't need that again.

I am not in favor of a revamp until the graphics are obnoxious to look at, I don't think source will hit that for at least 5 more years, maybe ever haha.

i played cs non source in college. Dam....my grades suffered. I have CS:S, but I never bothered to play it fearing that it would suck me in again.

I've recently installed some of my Steam games such as the original Half-Life and also the original Counter-Strike, and while configuring it I just checked by curiosity how many players were on (a few hours ago, today), and as I expected C-S is still very much alive, plenty of full 32 players servers. I don't play it since it's not my type of game (although I just keep my games installed, I'm just used to do that with my games even the ones I barely or never play, I have enough HDD space for that), but anyone saying that they miss the original C-S days could simply install and play it again, it's far from being dead.

New CS:S with new Ice World & Pool Day maps. I spend sooooooo much time on those 2. CS:S never got a proper Pool Day, Ice World is one of the best maps, so small and totally kick ass when you got 8 x 8 action going on.

Ugh, you guys had to mention CS 1.5! Now I have to remember the days where having a bad connection was a disadvantage.

Wrong. The net coding has needed fixing since the day it came out. Go back and play 1.6 and see how superior the registration is. I have never seen so many random ridiculous shots and lack of registration in my life till I played CS:S. I play like once a week out of boredom, but usually end up stopping after 10-15 minutes.

I remember when valve announced 1.6 and everyone thought it was the end of the world. But little did they know CS:S was coming. 1.5 was the best playability of them all, but 1.6 was not that bad.

Maybe this really is more than a rumor or I'm an idiot either or lol

Just take a look at the Content Description Record in your ClientRegistry.blob or through the Steam client Console. There are two applications with interesting names :
Counter-Strike: Source Beta Content (261)
Counter-Strike: Source Beta Content2 (262)

If you take a look at the appinfo record for the second one, you get this :

AppID : 262, ChangeNumber : 21177, last change : Sat May 08 13:59:40 2010, State: 0
Section extended :
"extended"
{
"dedicatedserverfolder" "orangebox"
"cddbfingerprint" "1263160873"
}

Beta 5.2 to 7.2. Best days of CS. Though I do evolve my play style with the advancement of the game. It's been through a lot of changes even before release 1.6. I do agree though, the hit registration is borked.

There is still alot of life in source. I just did a play through HL2 EP1 and EP2, and the difference between EP2 and HL2 is noticeable. I think with the update to the engine again they might push for EP3.

I could never figure out the hit boxes in CSS. Sometimes they were spot on, other times god knows where they were. I dunno if that was a design feature or if I just suck at CS games. That's the only source game I've ever had that problem with.
