Sweeeeett! Can't wait to see what improvements have been implemented!

Thank goodness for LogMeIn! Just installed CS:S Beta from my work computer, so it'll be ready to go when I get the heck out of here!

I just went to play CSS and it asked me to download the NEW beta wich is a MAJOR update.

it looks about the same to me. I dont know what the update consists of.

Good luck

An "extensive update" for Counter-Strike: Source (PC) is now available to owners of the multiplayer shooter by way of a limited beta, Valve Software has announced.

"The update includes a host of new features and functionality developed in collaboration with Hidden Path Studios," explained Valve. "This beta will run for a limited time, and once complete, the update will be deployed to all Counter-Strike: Source owners for free."

Among that "host of new features and functionality" you'll find the following:

144 achievements added
New lifetime player stats and summary screens
New match player stats and summary screens
New end of round display with MVP and interesting fact about a player
Updated scoreboard with new icons, visual style, MVP stars, and avatar pictures
New cinematic death camera
New domination and revenge system
Added avatar icons to voice chat, scoreboard, and end of round display
Incorporated many source engine updates

Doesn't look like I got in.

I'd love to play if I could find a clean server without the stupid maps, sound effects, and other mods. Just some clean CS:S like it was played back when it first came out. Last time I tried to play (a year or two ago), I couldn't find a single populated server like that.

I had just posted a thread the other day asking if Source was going to be updating soon. I had this game in mind.

While this isn't a Source update, it's at least nice to see they're upgrading it to the best Source currently has to offer (which is still a bit meh).

The game play of CS:S with the Frostbite engine? That would be incredible.

If they fix the ability to hack the game as easily as it can be done, I bet 2/3 to 3/4 of the CS:S community will suddenly stop playing altogether.

Imagine if it ran on CryEngine 2.

Has anyone tried this beta? The achievment system was pretty cool with L4D, but that was a campaign type game with actual purpose. CS:S only has 3 real purposes.....kill, plant/defuse, and rescue.

Tried the beta, still hated CSS. Wish I could transfer the beta to someone who would actually get some use out of it.

remember gabe promised hl2 engine multithread support so long ago....
but nothing for cs-s, hopefully they add it.
and yea, cs s with high levels of filter still looks half decent
