I mainly stick to testing things within the power config in the registry.

Well, for obvious reasons, I have been going there too in last coupla days. Along with running Speed Fan a lot, Task Mgr, etc.

But not sure what vital info we can glean in power config. Can U pls share?

I wish we could make like a poll re who, running W7 keeps cores parked vs unparked (and U bet, why?) I would like some perspective, esp here, where so many people know stuff and have uber experience.

Is yr core parking turned off? I think, just not positive. If so, do you notice differences from when it was turned on?

Am I working when I should be? NO. But I always get it done. Instead, I am still delving into core parking.

Well! Back in the day, when hyperthreading returned, it seems MS worked closely with Intel......to IMPROVE THINGS/potentiate things re power settings, etc..... and what we are addressing here.

I am stunned, actually, having found MS in this arena kinda Fascistic, and so, never once thinking Intel was actually a collaborative part of this.

Sorry to make new post, but I want this to be clear with visuals. I am now positive the problem was in the simpler app, UnparkCPU, cause guess what? I just ran it---you can see in Resource Monitor they are all unparked, and IT, UnparkCPU, SAYS THEY ARE ALL PARKED! Which, they are SOOOO NOT.

I then ran the better, more complex app I used to unpark them, and it reflects the reality: all unparked!

I now think everyone should step awaaaay from UnparkCPU! Using it messed up Windows! I will now uninstall it.

IMPORTANT ADDENDA!!!! After getting rid of the bad app, I ran CCleaner's conservative reg cleaner, and OMG, it produced a TON---a whole page--- OF ACTIVE X entries, ALL OF WHICH were associated with the app!!!!

I deleted all of them. Again, stay AWAY from that app, guys!!

The top app doesn't work - sorry wish I had seen that earlier to save you the mess as I had tested it some time ago on a couple machines to no avail and should have mentioned that when suggesting what worked for me as a pre-packaged gui...

OMG.....as if any part of this is YOUR FAULT?

And, when we suffer thru things the long way, then have to find a fix.....maybe we learn more than if someone in a cape flew down from the sky and made it easier!:)

My default mode in the midst of such events, cause they R part of life, is always "OK this sucks on the face of it, but what amazing things am I meant to learn from this?"

And always, it goes way beyond the elements of the event itself.:)

Not to mention, having fine, similarly interested humans on yr side making honest efforts, especially in something this esoteric.....is HUGE. How can anyone not get that?:D

Again, despite my friends and colleagues use computers every minute of every day and always have, among them, I am the ONLY one who loves them, knows anything important about them, and is rabid to learn more. Shocking.....but true.

So, see how lucky I am to now be a part of this community????? When things got messed, just knowing I could post if I couldn't find a fix/get around on my own......was HUUUUUUGE.

??????? What does that mean?????

And, please, as I said, guys, stay away from that app! It messed up my Powersettings, got things stuck, including cores in park, generated all kinda ActiveX errors, and it is just plain disgusting.

If I had different backup strategy, I might have had to put tons of reg keys back to normal manually!!!!

Also struck me during reverse clone, if I depended on RCN no money cloud backup, what took tiny time, would have taken uber time. Forget, what would one do, if one eneded to restore a drive if one's broadband was down?

Yes, this shows, if for only me, having cloned backup inside the box works best.

Final Edit/Final decision: Well, after running the system for many days with parking off, I turned it back on to get subjective sense. The system is, I think, as fast, and, while I ran Sisoft Sandra, the results confused me.

So, I did something simple which finally brought clarity: Using VSO, I loaded 8 copies of a music video I am currently obsessed with, so VSO would do simultaneous conversion and make bigger CPU load.

I had Resource monitor open showing my 4 reparked cores. The second conversion started, all cores became unparked, and the load was perfectly, evenly distributed among all. the second conversion finished, 4 cores got parked again. This was better than infinite metrics via say Sandra. I also now get, my cores are not stuck in parked.

And, while to some this ain no biggie, I kept testing my thermals when parking was off and they were 1 to 3 degrees C higher (around 30C) than formerly. When I turned parking back on, back to 26 - 28 at idle.

Tiny difference, but I like them lower, given, I now feel there seems to be no sacrifice in other ways with parking back on. At least re what I use my computer for.

Finis. (I think. lol)
