New Cellphone time...

Ok, so its time for me to reap the benefits of verizons new every two...

And I think im down to three models:

LG VX8100
Motorola E815
Motorola V325

Anyone with information is welcome... the good the bad or the ugly...

The ugly is that CDMA doesn't spawn any cool phones, the bad is that you're probably stuck with verizon, the good is that it's just a fvcking cell phone and the world will still spin. 😉

Nicely featured phone, thats not going to break the bank.
IE I dont want the samsung phone for $400, thats a phone, mp3 player, navigational gps system, and microwave oven.

edit: important to me... are
1)must have an alarm clock
2)PC sync with outlook would be cool
3)bluetooth headset for my wife
4)cool ringers and downloadable stuff

what the hell does that mean?
I thank you for a very intersting but useless post.

There used to be a guy named "Blackinches" that seemingly created an account to respond to all posts with his name, blackinches. Someone created a thread, Blackinches entered, hilarity ensued.

About the phone, I'd just get something simple that works well as a phone. If you get something expensive and flashy, it's more likely to get stolen and it will be out of date next year anyway.

Motorola E815

i had the V710, then i upgraded to the Razr, 🙁 it's not anywhere near as good as the V710, but the Form Factor works for me.

if my settlement from Verizon ever gets here i might just buy the E815.

Well if you call verizon you can usually haggle your way in to a Razr v3c for about 29 bucks after the 100 rebate. it's a good phone. I've been looking at the SmartPhones myself. The nice thing about the razr is that it's an extremely popular phone so there will be a good deal of 3rd party support for some time. It get's pretty good reception and is overall just a solid peice. That is what I would go for.

Update to GSM? Get your facts straight.

While I agree CDMA phones lag behind GSM features wise as a a technology CDMA is far more advanced than GSM. GSM is just now catching up to CDMA in areas such as data speed. BTW, I don't see any GSM providers offering any sort of direct-connect service.

I have e815. In fact, I got it a week ago. I'm a little uneasy about the Motorola's durability but build quality seems pretty good. It has more than all the features that I need. You can take pics and record video upto 15secs and it plays mp3s. The keys feel pretty comfortable. You can also expand the memory by adding a TransFlash card. The LCD is very nice and bright. It's not ugly but it could be less bulkier.

i have an e815 and i like it.

i have big hands and its a decent sized phone. to me, its not too big to put in a pocket or anything like that. volumes are loud - ringer, earpiece, and speakerphone. nice big screen too.

if you get it through verizon, there are no games on it. you have to pay to get some.
several features are disabled by verizon also, like bluetooth. there are hacks out there to enable this stuff and it is pretty easy. i did it to my phone.

You seem to be forgetting Cingular's Push-To-Talk (PTT) which indeed runs on their "nations largest network", which in fact is GSM. http://cingular.com/pushtotalk

I wouldn't go as far as saying CDMA is more advanced than GSM, they each have their advantages and disadvantages. CDMA does however currently offer slighly better SQ and faster data than GSM (EVDO is faster than EDGE), but if im not mistaken Cingular will soon be rolling out their UTMS data service (in fact i think they are already testing it in a few markets) than will match if not exceed the EVDO speed Verizon offers. Also, GSM provides the advantage of SIM cards which allow you to swap phones to your hearts content, without having to get your phone reprogrammed each time and without losing all your contacts.

Personally, I'm sticking with GSM until WCDMA hits the states.

Features disabled? Double Yew Tee Eff!!!
Why would they disable such a useful thing as bluetooth?
What else is disabled?
