OK the manual of most cars is pretty well written these days. You will find lots of great info in there. The salesperson is a schmuck if he didn't at least give the manual 15 seconds of mention while he was delivering the car to you.
What the manual will tell you is in the first 500 to 1000 miles, not to go one speed for a long time, and not to rev too high. If you keep to legal speeds, you'll be perfectly fine, unless the manual tells you otherwise. Basically, you should drive gently, and don't use the cruise control for more than a few minutes at a time. If you do need to drive on a long trip, let off the gas for a few seconds from time to time. New engines like to have a little tiny bit of oil sucked past their rings to help them get in the groove, so to speak.
