I bet you've never lived paycheck to paycheck and have no idea what it's like to hustle your way through school. I am not criticizing you, but you seriously NEED to live that way for a while to gain some perspective.

BTW, I don't think many people would be embarrassed to drive the Mark VIII. Based on the pictures the body is stunning. It really does appear to be a clean, nice looking vehicle. The fact that I'm scooping it up for 1600 is more of a bargain and getting kind of lucky then anything. Here is the exact vehicle I bought listed on autotrader:

Honestly, if you're embarrassed to drive that you're an ass.

I wasn't spoonfed either and wasn't given anything, but I did get very lucky at a young age and was able make a enough money to live better than most people. I'm not "bashing" you or your car. You simply took the first steps by saying "Who's the dick that says you cant get a nice reliable car for under 2k?" So don't point your finger if you're going to go off calling people "dicks."

Sounds like a great deal if you can get that suspension problem fixed relatively cheap. That's probably why the previous owner got rid of it. That car should run for many more years.

I've owned two Fords, both Mustang GT's (5.0l w/5spd) and both were great cars.

Was? So, you're retired now? Either that or you've blown through your inheritance and now you're broke?

That makes no sense. And my personal life is irrelevant, so is his.

You said, "you got lucky at a young age and was able to make a enough money to live better than most people." That's past tense. So, what's your situation today JLGasbag?

This thread isn't about me.

I had a '95 for a while. It was a nice car, but the transmission started to go south and I traded it in. Watch for that. If, on a cold morning, the car doesn't want to shift out of first until it's warm that means the transmission is failing and probably only has a year at most before needing a $2,000 rebuild. The transmissions in the early ('95 and earlier) Mark VIII's are the most prone to having that issue.

Other than that, and the air suspension, there's not too much bad about them. Squeeks and rattles mainly. And the worst headlights I've ever seen. Seriously, the low-beams are about as useful as a candle in a hurricane. Good high-beams though. Trunk is really poorly designed too, it goes very far forward, but is shallow. I couldn't even fit a full-sized cooler in it because the cooler was too tall. Winter and rain traction SUCKS! The so-called "traction control" doesn't help.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the car, a lot, but it's really not a practical vehicle for a younger person and it drinks Premium fuel (it does not run on regular except in emergencies and even then the manual says to put in as little regular gasoline as possible and then to fill the tank complete with Premium ASAP to avoid engine damage) while averaging under 20 mpg in normal driving. It will get 26-28 on the interstate, but it won't average near that in commuting.

Since it's the V8, good deal.

If it was the V6, I'd have told you to run. I had a 1992 Thunderbird (same car practically) with the V6 and it had a head gasket failure at like 100k miles.

That was happening on our BMW 325i which is why we got rid of it.

They never put a v6 in the mark VIII just the DOHC 4.6l that later became the Muatang Cobra engine. 280hp, nice interior, and a sexy body. One of the best looking cars from the 90s IMO. Just needs a manual tranny.

I don't think that car was offered with a V6.

nice car, be warned though, ford transmissions from that era are not very reliable. I would not be surprised if it was rebuilt at one point or another...

Since you like to mention your personal life all the time and how much of a badass high-powered businessman, it's very relevant.

Though, we can't hijack every thread and point out how much of a tool JLG is, so back on topic.

Decent car, if it's in good condition.

That doesnt scare me too much. I know a guy that can rebuild transmissions for $300. He's legit too.

What is your occupation? What is your annual salary? What is you net worth? What do you drive?

I love how you put down all the "common follk" constnantly, so I just want a little insight into who you are.

I invented the wheel, I collect royalties everytime someone drives their car.

I kid I kid.

I am not putting down this guy or his car, believe me, I'm not. I'm just saying, you cannot find a "reliable" car, per my definition, for that price.

Hey, you gotta drive what you gotta drive. Everyone pays their dues in some way.

I'm just saying, don't order Coca Cola and act like it's a glass of Louis XIII. Maybe I'm a jerk, sorry if I am, don't mean to be, but some of you guys just get waaaay too excited over cars most people would be a bit embarrassed to drive.

You obviously havent seen my thread HERE then.

Quick question....how on earth do you expect to pass inspection with the airbag light flashing? Thats most likely an automatic fail....airbag repair is going to cost you $$$$$$$$$.

I bought a car for $350 that I drove for three years, all I ever had to do was add a battery. Sold it for $300 at the end of those three years (and it was a FORD).
At the end of January of this year, I bought a car for $800, spent $36 to replace a bad hose, and drove it 500 miles to Denver, then 500 miles back, with some driving around while I was there, with no problems.
It's entirely possible to find a reliable car for less than $2k, you just have to know what to look for.

But let me add that that car is absolutely pimp, and Id love to have one myself. Ive always been thinking about buying an old american boat sized car for cheap, and fixing it up.

Who here is acting like he got a porche?

How many times can JLGatsby get pwn3d and still come back? I think the count is almost in triple digits by now 😀

A porche? I don't have a porche, we just have a concrete walkway up to our front door.

I think you meant Porsche? 😉

Okay, so I went to the dealership and saw the car. It looked just as nice as the pictures and I was excited. I met the gentleman selling the vehicle, and he was nice as well. My friend (the mechanic) was there and he looked over EVERYTHING, and he said honestly... this is the cleanest 13 year old car i've ever seen. This car has been babied. Niiiice.

I paid the guy... it was like 1800 after tax and tags. The car drove home fine. I absolutely love this car. Anyone who gets into the vehicle loves it. It's an amazing car.
