Anything you don't like about mfenn's build in post #10? it's a really good build and there is nothing low quality about the parts he picked. If I were you I would go for that, unless you particularly want an Nvidia card and the case is largely personally preference but the one he picked is of high quality.

I'm sure it is a great build and I did make some changes in my build as a result of his recomendations. I am sure that the parts he picked are of very good quality as his bieng a diamond member, he is most obviously experienced and knowledgeable, which is why I am asking for help on this particular web site as it came VERY HIGHLY recommended for what I am doing. Everyone has been very helpfull and I very much appreciate it, couldn't do this without all your knowledge.

THANKS AGAIN,
Spillbert

Hopefully I have this thing figured out. As usual, let me know what you all think. A techie friend of mind suggested an SSD for the OS.

mfenn's original build is better than that for nearly $200 less.....

In detail:

Coolermaster Hyper 212+ is a cheaper and better cooler.

As usual, you don't need the 2500K if you don't have a board that can OC it - so either swap the CPU to 2500/2400, or swap the board to Z68. Mfenn's asrock atx z68 board is the same price as that intel microatx h67. And no it's not worse quality

G.Skill 8GB DDR1333 can be had for $50, you don't need to pay $70 for memory.

Not sure about Corsair Force 90gb, the usual recommendation for an SSD is the Micron-controller based Crucial M4. But it's not available in 90gb, only 64/128. I would get the M4 64gb for OS, and install games on the HDD.

The 650W power supply is still bigger than you need. And why do you want it to be 80+ Gold? That's insanely bad value for money. It's the absolute highest quality product in its class that you can buy, and the same cannot be said for any of the other components. You could get Antec HGC-620 from newegg $50 after rebate and be perfectly happy with it.

You're spending far too much for a premium power supply that you don't need. Get a 450-550 watt Bronze certified supply instead, and use the extra money to get a better video card.

The short answer is that no, you did not do a very good job of choosing components.

Ha, you're a lot more diplomatic about it than I could've managed. Last gen dual-core in a $1200 system?

OP, just buy what mfenn tells you to. You're not gonna go wrong with any of his choices.

Here's my take. It's basically the same thing as mfenn's with a less expensive case and a power supply that's a bit better deal due to a $10 promo and $20 rebate.

unledxsn.jpg

Promo code EMCKAHK22

Edit: Whoops, forgot the DVD-R. Also added the combo with Windows 7.

1. Swap that cooler to Cooler Master 212+. Better and cheaper.
2. Swap that RAM to cheaper G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4GB DDR3-1333 CAS9.
3. If you believe GTS450 is enough for your gaming needs, fine. If not, pay $100 more for 6950 2GB.
4. There is no step 4.
5. Profit!

Agree 100%.

OP, the parts that you are not budging on (RAM, GPU, Case) are where you can really see some savings or get better performance.

What is it about those particular parts that is attractive to you? A $145 GTS 450 is a spectacularly bad deal.

Much better, but you still have that silly RAM in there. Why do you want $68 1.6V RAM (bad for Sandy Bridge), when you could have this G.Skill DDR3 1333 8GB 1.5V for $41?

Also, you should get the Hyper 212+ instead of the cooler that you have. A bigger fan is better, and the Hyper 212+ doesn't use the awful pushpin mounting system.

And the memory. G.skill is cheaper than that corsair by about $15.

Do you even read our posts?

Or do you take us for complete idiots?

Do we REALLY have to tell you half a dozen times to change the RAM and the cooler, and even after that, you won't even comment on our recommendations, as if you never noticed them! If you do not see this, God help you. If you see this and decide not to respond, you're a troll.

Peace, out.

You've never seen me mad. The point of the above post is to draw the attention of the OP - I'm not raging, I'm calmly telling him how it is.

Can't get the Hyper 212 to come up on the web site I am using to choose the parts for this build, but I do plan on using it. Really don't appreciate the insults. I am using several resources to get this project done, this bieng just one of them. As you all MUST know, there are hundreds of opinions out there and I have to wade through all of them and the reviews I read to come up with what I want. A very steep learning curve to be sure. I have changed this build as a result of your inpt several times using the parts several of you have suggested.

That GTS450 is very overpriced. It can be had for much cheaper. But you can also get a Zotac GTX 560 for $165 after rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500206 . It's almost twice as fast and it comes with free Batman Arkham City game.

Or you can get EVGA GTX 460 1GB SuperClocked http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130696 for $170 after rebate which is over 50% faster than GTS450 and comes with lifetime warranty.

The Dell display is probably a good one but it's pretty pricey for that size. I would get Asus VH238 23.6" 1080p LED-backlit monitor for $60 less http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236117

I think you should stop looking for components through that pcpartpicker website. It's better to buy everything from a single location.

Everything else in your setup I approve of. If you find the stock cooler too noisy you can upgrade the cooler later. Good luck
