Pro is still faster, has firewire 800, SD reader, backlit keyboard, and is aluminum body.

The base models are both 2.26Ghz and the Macbook is now uni-body too. Leaving a $200 price different for an aluminum housing, firewire, SD reader, and backlit keys. With a loss of 90GB of storage.

Oops! Missed the thing about proc. speed earlier. I've looked at several pages, and the one I had seen last showed MBP as faster. Anyway, I think we are in agreement in general that the new macbook is a better value. Plastic is cheaper than aluminum, and the other things are fairly minimal in cost to Apple I should think. You're mostly paying for the prestige of the pro. Is preinstalled software even different anymore? *goes to look*

27inch imac.... wow. I don't know if I could sit far enough away to use a screen that large.

Plus it's 16:9 so it's going to be almost as big as a TV.
I wonder if that 9400M will be sufficient to drive that 1920x1080 screen...it does look pretty enticing to me.

As far as Apple updates go, today was OK. However, I can't help but be disappointed in the GPU offerings for the iMac.

9400 is OK for the low end I guess, but a 4850 with only 512MB of RAM is their top end choice? Pathetic. Would it have been so hard to offer at least a 4890 with 1GB of RAM as an option across the line? To make matters even worse, once again you can't upgrade to the 4850 on the iMac with the smaller display.

As a share holder you have to love Apple. People seem happy about buying premium priced systems with a low end GPU and that certainly helps Apple's bottom line. However, as a consumer I am left scratching my head wondering why Apple continues to cripple it's machines with dated and under powered video options. Especially when one of the new technologies in Snow Leopard, OpenCL, promises to use the GPU for things other than just games.

Oh, no bluetooth in my hack... I guess I'll need a bluetooth dongle too.

Be sure to get the D-Link model, DBT-120 I believe. Apple sees it as it's own and I believe runs Software Updates on it as well for additional support.

Magic Mouse on order..

As for the 9400m. I think it's a pretty darn capable little GPU. I have one in my Unibody that I just received, and while I haven't put it through it's paces on gaming.. the animations in OS X are MUCH smoother than with my 8600GTM, so I'm betting that the 9400M in the iMacs will be just fine. The geek inside of me would love to be able to pack a 4890 in the 21.5" version, but I'm betting there would be heating issues with that config.

Address: Tronna, Canuckistan.

P.S. I paid the Apple tax and forked over an extra $200 for 8 GB Apple RAM (which now falls under Apple Care too). I am considering cancelling and order with 4 GB and just getting extra RAM myself for $120, but somehow it doesn't seem worth the hassle.

Yeah, sometimes it's worth it just to get the box in & go with no hassles...

I don't really understand the point of the 13" white Macbook, especially now that it has an LED screen...so $200 more gets you a metal frame, SD card reader, and Firewire port? The heck?

You mean, you don't understand the point of the 13" Macbook Pro?
